Flags at half-staff in honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

Staff report

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor Ron DeSantis and President Biden have issued proclamations ordering flags to be flown at half-staff on December 7 in honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Governer DeSantis issued the following statement:

On December 7, 1941, over two thousand American soldiers and civilians lost their lives and over one thousand were injured in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor U.S. Navy base. We remember the lives lost on that fateful day and honor the brave veterans of World War II who fought for our great Nation.

I signed the attached proclamation and hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the State of Florida on Thursday, December 7, 2023.

  • With every year that passes it seems the milestones change.

When I was a child every newspaper in the 1990s remembered Pearl.

As time goes on fewer and fewer people remember this day.

In fact fewer and fewer people remember 9-11.

That being said: May God grant our service members peace now and forever

    • Sad but true. So many now live for the moment, not sure where their next meal is coming from.
Some choose to forget due to their own selfishness.
