Flags at half-staff on September 11 for Patriot Day

Staff report

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor Ron DeSantis released the following statement, ordering all flags to be flown at half-staff from midnight to midnight on Monday, September 11, to honor and remember those who were lost on September 11, 2001:

It has been 22 years since the United States of America experienced the heinous acts of terror on September 11, 2001. United our country stands in remembrance of the 2,977 lives that were lost on that day; including many first responders, and military personal who demonstrated selfless courage in responding to these evil acts. I signed the attached Proclamation, and hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the State of Florida from midnight to midnight on Monday, September 11, 2023, to honor and remember those that were lost on that dreadful day.

  • Hopefully the City and GFR got the memo, we know Gainesville doesn’t always do what the Governor says and the station near Talbott on NW 43rd isn’t always thrilled about putting up an American flag.

  • I hope that this day is being remembered in schools. Of course, not hate towards any particular group. But that there are bad, evil people out there. And that wherever our flag fly’s it represents the American values that others hate.

  • GOD Bless the US and GOD Bless Governor DeSantis from a 9/11 Survivor who now resides in Florida 🙏🇺🇸🙏
