Florida cabinet votes for remission of all COVID-19 fines

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

During today’s Executive Clemency Meeting, Governor Ron DeSantis said he wanted to address COVID-19-related fines: “As we’ve seen, there’ve been unprecedented restrictions imposed on people, particularly at the local government level, on both individuals and businesses. I am moving for a remission of all the outstanding fines on individuals and businesses, in light of the fact that many of these restrictions, I think, have shown to be ineffective, and I think they’ve unfairly penalized people. I hereby move for a remission of all such fines.”

The motion passed 3-1, with Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried in dissent. The other two voting members are Attorney General Ashley Moody and Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis.

  • Please, unmask out children in school. We live in Collier County. The public schools make our children wear masks at pe and recess no matter how hot it is. We are raising our grandson he is 11, our daughter his mother passed when he was 3. Since he started school at Poinciana Elementary in August 2020, he has developed congestion in his chest a deep congested cough and has to take asthma medication to participate in his sports. He had none of this before starting school. About two months after school started he began to have the cough. I thought he was getting sick every time but he wasn’t it just continued to get worse. You should see how the inside of his mask look every day when he comes home it is disgusting. and he can’t breathe. I can’t breathe, I have asthma. I can’t imagine wearing a mask all day would probably die. I’m pleading with you to help stop this madness. Please remove the mask mandate from the schools. The kids in private schools don’t wear them and they have had no massive outbreaks. It is physically, socially, emotionally unhealthy for our children. We need to move towards normal. All the children I know that have gotten covid were exposed at Christmas, New Year’s, family and friends gatherings, not at school. Please for the sake of our children stop the madness unmask out children.

    Do the right thing!

    Respectfully,

    Sharon and Tim Billings

  • A LANDMARK legal decision declared that regional containment policies – including lockdowns, social distancing, prohibitions on gatherings by family or friends) are UNCONSTITUTIONAL. The judge called the lockdowns a “catastrophically wrong political decision with dramatic consequences for almost all areas of people’s lives.”

The judge ruled that the government violated the “inviolably guaranteed human dignity” under basic German law. This momentous, affirmative, liberating decision was handed down by a court of law in Weimar, Germany; the city whose name was adopted by the first German republic: 1919—1933, until it was overturned by the Nazi regime. Hundreds of thousands of German people have demonstrated throughout the summer and fall of 2020, some protesters compared their struggle to anti-Nazi resistance; which led Germany’s Foreign Minister Heiko Maas to bristle.
    .
Forensic analysis of official data convinced the court that the epidemic situation that was used to justify the lockdown laws does not exist. The judge ruled that the government lacked sufficient legal grounds to impose the restrictions since there was no “epidemic situation of national importance.” He declared that the measures were an attack on the “foundations of our society.”

  • yes. And you should not be denied food or water if you don’t wear a mask (a basic human necessity)…A friend was
recently denied a bagel from a walk-up up window in downtown Gainesville..Why? because he wasn’t wearing a mask. —Some places like MiApa won’t take cash. That’s right, MiApa won’t take US currency that says “in god we trust” and “goodfor all debts public & private”…they are debit or credit only. The legislature & Governor Desantis need to
assure that this type of descriminstion must stop. You should not be denied food or water which also means going into a grocery store to get it if you don’t wear a mask (they all have signs saying law requires it) and poor people are
being discriminated against because they may not have a bank account or credit card, etc. There needs to be a declaration that face masks are not required to obtain food and water and that cash MUST be accepted everywhere.

    • My suggestion is if they won’t accept cash and there isn’t a “surcharge” for gratuity, don’t leave a tip. Let the employees tell management that current policies are making it difficult to earn wages. Isn’t that what cancel culture is all about?
