Florida Department of Education announces Florida leads the nation on the EdChoice Friedman Index

Press release from Florida Department of Education

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the Florida Department of Education announced that Florida has earned the highest score on the 2025 EdChoice Friedman Index. Florida scored a 77 on the index, reflecting the state’s expansive school choice programs and the availability of Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) for families to use for additional educational services.

“Today, Florida posted yet another #1 ranking,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “EdChoice has named Florida #1 in education freedom for having the most robust school choice options in the nation. Education is best with competition and freedom!”

“I am proud of the work we have done to expand school choice options for families,” said Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr. “Florida has led the nation in education because of our record investments in school choice. I thank EdChoice for the recognition of our hard work to support every Florida student in finding the right learning environment for their individual needs.”

The Friedman Index evaluates states based on student eligibility for choice programs, options for use of school choice funds, and parity of school choice funds to traditional school funding. Florida ranks far above the other high-ranking states, with the number two state of Arkansas earning a score of 60, and number three Alabama earning a score of 59, in comparison to Florida’s score of 77.

  • “EdChoice has been called “the nation’s leading advocate of vouchers” by The Wall Street Journal.”

The Minister of Propaganda at Dept. of Education is following Desantis’ order to quote a highly biased outfit to justify their program to destroy public education. Nice fascist work, Desantis. You suck.

      • Anonymous, it’s freedom for better off parents to get reimbursed, not enough for poor kids and the “freedom” entails stripping resources from public schools who’s standards tax payers have control over.

        • PS Free public schools is a grand and long standing promise to all kids that goes back to our founding, even if corrupted during slavery and segregation. Not sure we owe everyone a religious or other special interest education, nor are we doing that now.

    • +1

The goal of the organization is more vouchers. In Florida and many states, the amount of the voucher is enough to benefit private school parents financially regardless of their income level without being enough to fund poor kids.
