Four arrested after fight at Boardwalk Apartments

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jazminelza Echevaria, 30; Jontasjah Taniaya Hodges, 22; Jeremiah Marques Robinson, 27; and Selena-Marie Summerall, 23, were arrested last night after a fight at Boardwalk Apartments (2701 SW 13th Street).

Summerall reportedly told a responding Gainesville Police Department officer that she was in a verbal argument on the evening of July 21 with Robinson, her ex-boyfriend, when he called Echevaria and Hodges out to the parking lot of the apartment complex; she said Robinson repeatedly shoved her with both hands and pushed her to the ground, where Echvaria and Hodges punched and kicked her while Robinson held her down.

A witness reportedly provided video of the fight that showed Robinson pulling Summerall to the ground, where she was “jumped” by Echevaria and Hodges; when Summerall tried to get up to run away, Robinson allegedly “slung” her back to the ground.

Summerall reportedly said that Hodges went into her apartment, came out with a purse, and pulled a gun from the purse; she said Hodges cocked the gun and pointed it at her.

Summerall said that when Hodges pointed the gun at her, she went back to her vehicle and got a knife out of the trunk “for protection.” Hodges reportedly said Summerall walked toward her with the knife in her hand, and she believed Summerall intended to harm her.

Summerall and Hodges did not inform the officer about any injuries; Robinson reportedly suffered several scratches, and Echevaria was transported to an emergency room, where she was diagnosed with a sprained thumb.

Before being advised of her Miranda rights, Echevaria reportedly said she never saw a gun.

Echevaria reportedly told the officer that she jumped into the fight when Robinson screamed, “Get her off me, get her off me!” because Robinson is her brother. She said Summerall spat on her multiple times.

Before being advised of her Miranda rights, Hodges reportedly told the officer that she owns a gun but never brought it out of her apartment. She made no post-Miranda statements.

Before being advised of his Miranda rights, Robinson reportedly said Summerall took a knife out of her trunk and added, “That’s why the other weapon was brought out.”

Post Miranda, Robinson reportedly said he was trying to separate Summerall from Echevaria and Hodges and never held Summerall down to get “jumped” by the other two women. He said Summerall was trying to attack him, so Echevaria and Hodges “jumped in to help.”

Post Miranda, Summerall reportedly said Echevaria and Hodges “jumped” her, and then Hodges grabbed a gun and pointed it at her. She said that when she saw the gun, she went to the trunk of her vehicle and grabbed a knife. When the officer asked why she did not get in her vehicle and leave, she asked, “How, when they are standing in front of my vehicle?” The officer noted that Summerall’s vehicle was parked “in a clear lane of travel (able to freely be reversed or driven forward).”

Echevaria has been charged with simple battery. She has no criminal history, and Judge Kristine Van Vorst ordered her released on her own recognizance.

Hodges has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and simple battery. She has a juvenile conviction from 2021. Judge Van Vorst set bail at $95,000.

Robinson has been charged with domestic battery. He has juvenile convictions between 2013 and 2016 and one adult misdemeanor conviction (non-violent). Judge Van Vorst set bail at $10,000.

Summerall has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of simple battery. She has no criminal history; Judge Van Vorst set bail at $25,000.
