NEW VIDEO: Four ASO deputies on paid administrative leave after the shooting death of a man brandishing a firearm

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A man is dead and four Alachua County Sheriff’s (ASO) Deputies are on paid administrative leave after the deputies discharged their service weapons at a man brandishing a firearm.
Earlier this morning, deputies responded to the 6700 block of SW 4th Place (Holly Heights), where the caller said a man, later identified as Darian D. Holmes, 55, was armed with a handgun and beating on the front door of their residence.
Deputies reportedly found Holmes “recklessly brandishing the firearm and making statements that indicated he was in a heightened state of crisis.” Deputies attempted to negotiate with Holmes for about 40 minutes in an effort to resolve the situation.
During the response, deputies learned that Holmes had 14 prior felony convictions, including two convictions for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to ASO, shots were fired “at some point during the encounter” and medical care was immediately provided to Holmes, who was transported to a local hospital and later died from his injuries.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been notified and will conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.

How about: Glad the Deputies and the citizens they are sworn to protect are not injured. Their action most likely saved lives today. Good guys 1, evil 0 .
Don’t forget the legal fees and costs of incarceration and endless appeals that taxpayers were spared. I’ll even offer to replace the rounds that were fired to save those budget expenditures.

I agree. If that guy in Charlotte wouldn’t have been released back into society the young Ukrainian woman would likely still be alive. She never expected or asked for a such a brutal attack on her to happen.
And he’s currently in a psychiatric hospital, rather than jail.
What a terrible thing to have to take a life, but those who protect us sometimes have to do that very thing.
I’m praying for the deputies and the aftermath that they will have to endure, as well as for the family of the deceased.
I am thankful for those who run toward danger to protect the rest of us. I’m also thankful that there is a process to assess whether a law enforcement shooting was appropriate – with great power comes great responsibility.

This does not look like a successful police operation. According to the video, text, and 911 call the guy doesn’t threaten anyone but himself. The cops apparently just want this to end and sic a dog on him followed by shooting him. WTF? Just wait him out, however long it takes. The guy is not obviously not sane or sober and at that point not threatening anyone else.
This is usually the case with dark skin folks. Sad situation.
