Frazer robotics wins top awards at state championship, multiple teams advance to the world championship

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Frazer School will send two elementary teams and five middle school teams to the VEX Robotics World Championship.

125 of the top elementary and middle school VEX IQ Robotics teams in North/Central Florida competed in the Regional Championship over the weekend. The Frazer School represented 3 elementary and 13 middle school teams. 

Elementary division

In the elementary division on Saturday, 13722Z – 67th ICAO Regiment (Charles Coville, Owen Eldred, Ian Jung, Aayan Patel) placed 2nd in the Teamwork Finals. 13722X – Dippin’ Bots (Yiqi Song, Henry Tang, Jayden Wu, Austin Yang) ranked #4 in skills, #4 in qualifications, and won the Design Award (2nd place). Both teams have earned the opportunity to compete in the World Championship, claiming 2 of the 10 qualifying awards.

Middle school division

In the middle school division on Sunday, The Frazer School earned 5 of the 8 World Championship qualifying spots. 3722X – Uprising (Glenn Jang, Kyle Kellogg, Maverick Snead) and 3722Y – Demolition (Alexis Eldred, Christopher Lee, Brayden Wagner, Albert Zeng) ranked #4 and #5 in skills, claiming 2 spots through double qualifications. Team Y also won the Amaze Award. 3722G – RN (Jerry Chu, Darren Huang, Saam Khanal, Shengsheng Yang) won the Think Award for their strong autonomous programming and placed 5th in the finals. 3722H – InnoTech (Mia Gao, Abby Guo, Haena Kim, Riya Sood, Evie Yu) won the Design Award (2nd place).

Team 3722U – Quasar (Vivek Kolli, Nivedh Naik, Vincent Wen) took the spotlight at this event, earning the famed “triple crown” achievement, which consists of the three highest awards in each category, all of which are Worlds-qualifying. The team was ranked #1 in qualifications throughout the entire event and won the Excellence Award (1st place overall), the Teamwork Champion Award, and the Robot Skills Champion Award. Vincent, the IQ Team Captain at TFS, has mentored multiple teams across the world throughout his VEX IQ career. He and his teammate, Nivedh, have participated in competitive robotics since the boys were in 4th grade. 

“I am incredibly proud of all the accomplishments of our team this season,” said Frazer robotics coach Steve Yu. “These students have put in the time, effort, and determination to achieve their highest potential. It is satisfying to know they will carry the skills they have developed in this program throughout their educational career.”
