Friends of the Library sale to be held April 22-26

Press release from Friends of the Library

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For more than 60 years, Friends of the Library, an all-volunteer organization, has held semiannual book sales of gently used books of all genres, texts, artworks, audiobooks, foreign language books (many, many different languages), puzzles, games, CDs and records, music scores, movies, and much more. All items have been donated to us by the local community. All proceeds are used for the benefit of the Alachua County Library District Projects, which promote literacy throughout the 12 branches in Alachua County.

The Spring Book Sale, one of the largest used book sales in the southeast United States, will be held April 22-26, 2023. This five-day event, held in our football-field0size bookhouse at 430 Main Street, offers BARGAIN prices (most items are between 25 cents and $4) on over 500,000 items. This event is free and open to people of all ages. It is always a fun and exciting time for all attendees!

Our Collector’s Corner is of special interest to many people. For serious bibliophiles and history buffs, there is a wealth of material. One may find rare volumes, first editions, and signed literary works. It also offers historic maps and postcards, as well as local authors’ works. A list of this Spring Sale’s offerings in the Collector’s Corner can be found on our website, FOLACLD.org.

We keep the shelves restocked as needed, so there is no need to worry that the best books can only be found early in the sale. With the exception of the Collector’s Corner, all items are reduced to half-price on Tuesday; and all remaining items are 10 cents on Wednesday!!! Payment options include cash, checks, and credit cards.

Volunteers with maps and smiles are on hand at all times for any shopper who needs assistance.

We recommend that shoppers bring their own bags/ small boxes for their purchases. We continue to recommend wearing masks for safety.
