ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Monique Dashay Harrington, 43, of Ft. White, was arrested early this morning after a driver on I-75 reported that a woman pointed a gun at her during a road rage incident.
At about 11:17 p.m. on May 9, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of an armed disturbance at the 377 mile marker on I-75, south of Williston Road.
Deputies made contact with the victim at the 390 mile marker (NW 39th Avenue) and noted that she was “wet from sweat due to being visibly shaken up” and was in distress.
The victim said she had been driving northbound on I-75 when a black Jeep started tailgating her; she said the Jeep started flashing its lights at her in an attempt to make her move over; she said when she did not move over, the driver began “road-raging.” She said the Jeep got in front of her vehicle and slowed down, so she flashed her lights at the Jeep. She said the Jeep pulled alongside her vehicle, and an object was thrown out of the window, hitting her driver side door; she said she threw an object back at the Jeep in return.
The victim said she tried to speed away from the Jeep, but it followed her, remaining alongside her vehicle, then the female passenger, who was wearing a red jacket, pointed a black or silver firearm out the window at her, so she called 911 while continuing her attempts to speed away from the Jeep.
Post Miranda, Harrington reportedly said she had been asleep in the passenger seat of the Jeep and was awakened when the driver became angry about a white sedan in front of them, which was swerving and brake-checking them and also threw a drink at their vehicle. Harrington reportedly said she rolled the window down and motioned toward the white sedan with a glass water bottle that has a silver cap, as if she were going to throw the bottle, but she did not. She reportedly admitted to having weapons in the car but denied brandishing them.
A search of the Jeep reportedly produced a black handgun in a small bag under the driver’s seat and a silver handgun in the glove box on the passenger side; a red jacket was found on the center console.
Harrington has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She has no criminal history; Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $40,000.

Tell me you’re a dumbass without saying you’re a dumbass. Here’s your sign.
Road rage with a gun ought to get your car crushed into a cube if you ask me. The highway patrol could then place the car cubes beside the road where the incident occurred as a reminder. Kind of like the memorials you see where someone died in an accident. I bet a lot of these hot heads out there might simmer down a bit.
Whole thing could have been avoided if the idiot in the white car wasn’t going slow in the left lane. As for Monique – keep her locked up for 10 years.
I do agree with you, but I did not see the driver white car was in the left lane however I’ve been in the right lane at 70 miles an hour minding own business and had cars come up behind me and flashed the lights. Want me to move over for them.
They want you to move because you are holding up traffic, the police will tell you the same thing it doesn’t matter the speed limit slower traffic keep right or get pulled over and cited. Your choice. If even you’re doing 70 in the right lane of I75 you’re going to slow the semi trucks go faster than you.
Please read my comment before you respond I clearly state. I am in the right lane at the speed limit.
Based on the “victim’s” statement , I’m guessing she initiated this incident by driving slower than other traffic in the left “passing” lane , then escalated it by refusing to move over , which is required by law , and then throwing something at the other car . Doesn’t excuse the other person from pointing a gun at the “victim” , if she actually did it .
Keith Perry’s finest moment.
A Senate Republican will try again to pass a bill that would restrict drivers from cruising in the left lane.
Sen. Keith Perry, R-Gainesville, on Monday filed a proposal (SB 258) that would apply to drivers on highways with at least two lanes in the same direction and maximum speed limits of 65 mph or higher.
The bill would make it illegal to use the left lane unless attempting to pass other motorists. The bill is filed for the 2024 legislative session, which will start in January.
Similar measures were filed for the 2023 session but did not clear the Senate or House.
The bill would include exceptions for situations such as when left lanes are designated for high-occupancy vehicles or when motorists are preparing to exit highways.
Florida has had this law for over a year
Florida has laws restricting left-lane usage, commonly known as a ban on “left-lane camping.” Under Florida Statute § 316.081(3), drivers must move out of the far-left lane on roads with two or more lanes if they are moving slower than the normal speed of traffic, essentially requiring the lane to be used for
So this is Perry fault that the road rage incident occurred?
Whatevs…. this only adds to her ‘street cred’.
