Gainesville barber sentenced for killing neighbor’s cat with antifreeze in cat food

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Terry Tyrone Guider, 48, has been sentenced to 90 days in jail, followed by three years of probation, after entering a plea of nolo contendere to two counts of animal cruelty; after warning his neighbors that he would kill their cat if it came on his property again, he put antifreeze in a can of cat food, killing the cat.
The cat’s owners told a Gainesville Police Department officer that Guider approached their Ring cameras on October 1, 2023, when they were out of town and a housesitter was caring for the cat. Guider said, “I will kill your cat if they come on my property again,” and one of the owners responded to Guider in the Ring app and asked him to leave their yard. Guider then left the property.
When the cat’s owners returned the next day, they found their cat dead, and an autopsy showed that the cat had died from suspected ethylene glycol toxicity.
Guider, who owns a barber shop, entered a plea of nolo contendere on June 18 to two counts of animal cruelty; according to the plea document, the maximum sentence is five years for each count, and the minimum mandatory sentence is a $2,500 fine for each count. Judge Denise Ferrero withheld adjudication of guilt and sentenced Guider to 90 days in jail, followed by 36 months of probation. He was also ordered to pay $850 in restitution to the owners and $632 to a veterinarian, pay two fines of $2,500 each, and complete 50 hours of community service.
The appropriate sentence would have been feeding this 💩 some of his own antifreeze.
This a-hole should have a much stricter sentence or penalty. How dare he. Just let him touch one of my pets. He had better be glad he didn’t.

Although I don’t condone his methods or the outcome, I do have problems with people who let their cats run free; even with government entities that allow it.
People have to keep their dogs under control and on a leash, often have to register them as well.

Thankfully there are more humane ways for taking care of those cats that want to scratch car hoods or kill the native wildlife.

Listen. It’s a cat. He should not have killed the cat and especially not in such a cruel way. But what does society serve by imprisoning someone for this? If the cat would have ran into the street and this guy ran it over with his car, there would be ZERO consequence. If a hawk came over and scooped up the cat, we wouldn’t jail the hawk. At the end of the day, the taxpayer will house this guy and provide any medical attention he needs for the next 90 days, while his neighbors merely get reimbursed for their troubles. And when he gets out, they’ll still be neighbors.
It’s called justice and law. It doesn’t change just because you prefer dogs over cats. Go outside and touch some grass.

What would you say if it was your cat? I think a beatdown would suffice instead of this punishment, but the owners went the legal route.

Not defending what homeboy did but I completely understand his frustration because my neighbor has multiple stray cats that he won’t spay or neutor and they used to always come over, bully and steal my cat’s food till I started shooting them with pellets at very low psi as to not hurt them but enough to drive the point home aka train them!

Post Miranda, The DEF stated that on 10/01/2023, he did go to WIT 1 and WIT 2 residence to confront them about their cat. The DEF then admitted that he would kill their cat if the cat came onto his property again. The DEF stated he would poison them if it happened again. The DEF admitted he was told by his brother to put antifreeze inside cat food and place it in the yard to keep them away.
