Gainesville chosen as part of Emergency Financial Empowerment initiative
Press release from City of Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (CFE Fund), a national nonprofit organization, has selected the City of Gainesville as one of the first cities to take part in its Emergency Financial Empowerment (EFE) initiative.
Through the EFE initiative, the City will be able to help residents affected by natural disasters better identify and access financial relief resources.
“We too often think of emergency preparation and response in terms of physical damage and leave unattended the financial consequences of these events,” said Gainesville Mayor Harvey Ward. “The holistic approach offered by the CFE Fund enables us to work with our underserved neighbors to help them better prepare a broad emergency plan. I am delighted Gainesville can participate in this program,” he said.
Natural and man-made disasters can impact families through unexpected expenses, loss of income, and other financial strains. These, in turn, can lead to long-term financial consequences, especially for underserved communities.
Through the EFE initiative, the City will receive technical assistance to build and expand its emergency infrastructure and help area neighbors navigate financial support resources.
“The CFE Fund is thrilled to work together with local governments and incorporate the array of public and community financial empowerment resources to support individual and family finances for emergencies,” said Jonathan Mintz, President and CEO of the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund.
The CFE Fund engagement will be supported by a $150,000 grant to the City of Gainesville from Bloomberg Philanthropies as part of its Greenwood Initiative, a philanthropic effort that aims to accelerate the pace of wealth accumulation for Black individuals and families and address systemic underinvestment in Black communities.
“Thanks to generous support from Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Greenwood Initiative, this new Emergency Financial Empowerment initiative will help Gainesville residents better prepare for and recover from unexpected disasters,” said Mintz.
The EFE initiative represents a new partnership between emergency management and financial empowerment. The collaboration will help ensure residents can access supportive resources, including those zip codes and populations that may have been disconnected from City services and thus more vulnerable to the impacts of disasters.
“This burden has a greater effect on the most vulnerable families,” said Garnesha Ezediaro, who leads Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Greenwood Initiative. “That’s why local strategies to combat disaster-induced financial inequity are so critical.”
Fellow cities selected by the CFE Fund include Dallas, TX; Rochester, NY; St. Louis, MO; and Saint Paul, MN.
“Our Vision:
Cities and mayors are uniquely positioned to deliver large-scale, high-quality financial empowerment services. The CFE Fund provides both funding and focused technical assistance to mayors and their teams to help them embed systemic financial empowerment programs and policies into city services to improve individual and family financial stability.”

Again, a radical lobbyist organization embedding themselves in an attempt to change local governance. Just more globalist, race baiting, pandemic promoting, climate fear bs.
Michael Bloomberg and Bill Gates loves you.
Wtf does that even mean 😂😂
Creates some catchy ass name for some scam out of tax payers money….
Liberal ass Gainesville
“Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (CFE Fund), a national nonprofit organization” Like clockwork, fool, nothing relevant here “motor city” , nothing to do with taxes
“Natural and man-made disasters can impact families through unexpected expenses, loss of income, and other financial strains. These, in turn, can lead to long-term financial consequences, especially for underserved communities.”
The greatest man-made disaster in Gainesville is the City Commission. It’s a recurring disaster that seems to repeat itself every couple years.
Will the voters who keep causing it be excluded from using the CFE Fund due to their poor choices?
Maybe they can get the yard debris picked up faster.
Real Empowerment would be to let every single GRU customer outside of the city Iimits who have no say so about City Government have a vote in City affairs. It’s selfish and wrong since the City owns the utility yet those outside the city limits that are forced to use GRU are stifled in the ability to vote in City elections.
Absolutely. We pay high GRU rates and a surcharge tax on GRU bill and on explosive property taxes. City doesn’t want county working class and UF employees who can also read and refuse their seedy ideas.
Last gasp for the NGOs, I think…
A dubious honor. Why was Gainesville selected, you might ask? What could Gainesville possibly have in common with Dallas, Rochester, St. Louis, and Saint Paul?
Hint: these 5 cities have massive amounts of crime and poverty relative to their size (with the exception of Saint Paul, but its rates have been skyrocketing and it will be as bad as the rest of us soon).
Our corrupt and incompetent city government is turning Gainesville into a third-world hellhole.
Are you kidding? What an HONOR! WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT!
YOU GET TO HELP MAKE SURE ONLY DEMOCRATS GET ASSISTANCE DURING NATURAL EMERGENCIES!
OH WAIT! ON SECOND THOUGHT, IT’S ONLY $150,000! THIS SOUNDS LIKE FUNDING FOR MORE KAMALA HARRIS JOY CAMPAIGN WASTE! SHE NEEDS $19,850,000 MORE TO BREAK EVEN ON HER JOYFUL CAMPAIGN COSTS! LMAO!!!!!
