Gainesville Citizens for Active Transportation and Gainesville is for People to host joint City Candidate forum on June 26
Press release from Gainesville Citizens for Active Transportation and Gainesville is for People
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Wednesday, June 26, Gainesville Citizens for Active Transportation (GCAT) and Gainesville is for People will host a joint forum for Gainesville City Commission candidates at the LifeSouth Community Blood Center (1221 NW 13th St.) at 6:30 p.m.
The forum will focus on a variety of active transportation issues that impact bicycling, transit, pedestrian, and disability access, as well as housing issues, such as high rents and home prices, displacement of residents, and development of housing near jobs and educational opportunities.
Two contested City Commission seats, At-Large-A and District 1, will be on Gainesville voters’ August ballots. After the forum, GCAT and Gainesville is for People will consider respective endorsements to their members.
Gainesville Citizens for Active Transportation is a nonprofit social welfare organization formed to advocate for complete streets practices that promote cycling, walking, disability access, and transit through education and advocacy for a safe and convenient network of multi-use trails and streets. Active travel strengthens connections in neighborhoods and enhances our community’s quality of life, health, environment, and economy. GCAT envisions a community in which active transportation is a viable and attractive option for all.
Gainesville is for People is a group of volunteer housing advocates in Gainesville fighting to end the housing shortage in our community. The group focuses on issues of tenant displacement, segregation, high rents and home prices, and long commutes that result from a lack of housing close to jobs, schools, and other community resources. Gainesville is for People is a chapter of YIMBY Action, a national network of people who advocate for abundant, affordable housing and inclusive, sustainable communities across the United States.
Sounds like the members of Gainesville is for People need to open their own doors to our “unhoused neighbors.” Always leftists advocating for more taxation in order
*in order to fund the leeches of our society.
Yeah, when you offer your home to help house everyone you want arrested.
Many hard working people and retirees simply cannot afford rent! Everyone deserves a safe place to live. Please exercize some compassion. Lack of affordable housing nationally is a big problem!!!
And that’s why people are leaving, more and more as decisions get passed
Hopefully as they have their little circle jerk they’ll ask the candidates why they keep raising taxes and have promoted increasing utility rates in the past. There’s part of your “affordable” housing issue.
Throw in a couple outrageous votes for salary increases for certain city positions while most wages have continued to feel the effects of inflation, and if those attending have any common sense, they’ll realize the majority of the candidates participating don’t have the residents’ best interests in mind.
Maybe you can invite them to CJ you guys hold here everyday.
Jazzy, Ward didn’t feed you this morning?
People like you are a dime a dozen in Gainesville. You’ve earned or accumulated your assets by whatever means and now you and others like you are okay with wanting to take away others’ while protecting what you have. Unwilling or incapable of actually stating your selfish reasons, because it would show you for what you truly are – just another progressive hypocrite.
You regurgitate your disdain for State governance while saluting the fiscal incompetence of local government. You, (and the people most threatened), feel the vote for single member districts was dishonest although the people voted for and approved it. You tout ownership of GRU by the citizenry of Gainesville and 2 comments later say the Commissioners own it.
The same Commissioners you claim not to know or have any allegiance to yet from 98% of your commentary, give fealty to. It’s apparent, you’re a hypocrite.
Ignore my initial question and wipe that jizz of your chin…you did get fed this morning.
If you’re going to make up positions I have never taken and imply knowledge of my personal life, which of course you know nothing about, you are clearly a mental weakling incapable of winning an honest argument and obviously without any ethics.
I’ll continue to flatten any BS you post, but I don’t have enough respect for you to otherwise engage.
🤣🤣🤣 One of my ethics is not lying. You’ve implied your accomplishments here on this medium and they are commendable. I don’t believe I’ve ever hyped any accomplishments or anything else I’ve done in my life – my life, my business.
In your list of lifelong experiences I’m confident you’ve heard, “a person’s perception is their reality.” I guess my being a “mental weakling” to you is like my perception of you – we’re both entitled to it.
Maybe you can find solace in that,…or at least tell your handlers you’re tired of engagement.
