Gainesville City Commissioner Ed Book graduates from Florida League of Cities course for elected officials
Press release from City of Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville City Commissioner Ed Book completed a comprehensive course offered in Gainesville this month by the Florida League of Cities (FLC), designed for the state’s newly elected officials.
Commissioner Book, sworn into office in January 2023, was elected to a 4-year term by Gainesville voters in District 2. He joined 15 fellow officials from across the state at the Institute for the Elected Municipal Officials (IEMO) course that focused on municipal government structure, revenue components, and governmental accounting for cities, as well as intergovernmental relations and council relationships.
“I want to be an effective representative for my community, and this course gives all of us more tools to do that,” said Commissioner Book. “It was also a great opportunity to meet new colleagues and exchange ideas that we can each bring back to enrich our communities,” he said.
Created more than 30 years ago, the IEMO program is recognized as the most popular training offered by the FLC.
“The League’s IEMO course is the only statewide opportunity to get this caliber of education,” said FLC President Greg Ross, mayor of Cooper City. “We are proud of the positive impact IEMO has in helping to inform, support, and provide the tools that Florida’s local elected officials need to become even better leaders for their municipalities. I applaud the IEMO graduates for their commitment to expanding their education and congratulate them for successfully completing this course.”
Congratulations Ed Book for being proactive through learning how you can help the community.
This course should be mandatory for all public commissioners.
Ed Book is OK, but the course should be available to all citizens as an audit process. – Not just members of a corrupt commission who took the course to get us in the mess we’re in today.
