Gainesville Housing Authority and Newstar Development break ground on Phase II of Woodland Park Redevelopment
Press release from Gainesville Housing Authority
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Housing Authority and Newstar Development officially broke ground on Phase II of the Woodland Park Redevelopment, ushering in the next chapter in transforming public housing in Gainesville.
This phase will replace 78 aging units with 144 modern, energy-efficient units designed to meet the needs of Gainesville’s families, seniors, and individuals. Demolition and construction activities have begun, with completion expected in late 2026.
“Today we are one step closer to a future where more Gainesville families can access safe, dignified, modern affordable housing opportunities right here in our community,” said Pamela Davis, CEO of the Gainesville Housing Authority. “The next phase of the Woodland Park redevelopment builds upon the success of our first phase, reaffirming our commitment to providing high-quality homes that support the health, stability, and future of our residents.”
Brian Evjen, President of Newstar Development, added, “We are proud to partner with GHA on this transformative development. Phase II of Woodland Park is more than just new buildings — it’s about empowering people through investment in community and economic opportunity that will benefit Gainesville and Alachua County for generations.”
Phase II continues GHA’s long-term strategy to revitalize its housing portfolio, promote economic mobility, and create strong, inclusive neighborhoods. Once complete, Woodland Park will stand as a model for sustainable, community-focused redevelopment.

Quit showing off and get back to work. What a waste of time on the taxpayer dollar. Don’t forget to cut another ribbon.
Isn’t that where the previous Woodland Park project was redone, and there’s no security entry or barriers either? They need to SCREEN housing applicants — and guests.
