Gainesville man arrested after allegedly pointing gun at bystander who tried to stop him from dragging a woman by her hair

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Chrishaune Latez Lee, 28, was arrested early this morning after allegedly pointing a gun at a bystander who reportedly tried to stop him from battering and dragging a woman at Campus Walk Apartments.

A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to Campus Walk Apartments (914 SW 8th Avenue), where the victim said that at about 2:06 a.m., he saw Lee dragging a woman by her hair, beating her up, and trying to drag her back into an apartment. He said he tried to intervene, and Lee threw a punch at him and missed, falling to the ground. The victim said that when Lee stood back up, he produced a handgun and aimed it at the victim; the victim said he ducked and ran in fear of being shot. He said the gun was black and reportedly said Lee was the only one who had a gun during the incident.

Three witnesses reportedly told the officer that they saw Lee grab a woman and beat her up. They said the victim tried to intervene and Lee tried to punch the victim but fell, got back up, and pointed a gun at the victim.

Post Miranda, Lee reportedly said he had gotten into an argument with the woman and had grabbed her and tried to bring her inside the apartment so “the neighborhood wouldn’t hear them argue.” He said the victim approached him and pushed him down the stairs, and he wanted to fight the victim when he got up, so he reached into his pocket and gave two black phones to his little brother so he could fight the victim. He said the victim ran after he gave his phones to his little brother.

The officer viewed surveillance video from Campus Walk and reported that the video showed Lee trying to punch the victim and missing, causing him to fall. The video reportedly showed that when Lee got back up, he produced a black handgun, pointed it directly at the victim, and kept the gun pointed at the victim as the victim ran away.

The officer reported that he was unable to locate the woman.

Lee has juvenile convictions between 2012 and 2014, 11 adult felony convictions (none violent, but an aggravated assault charge was dropped as part of a plea agreement in a 2021 case), and one adult misdemeanor conviction (non-violent). He has served two state prison sentences and was most recently released in February 2024. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $550,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Another ‘contribution’ from a member of the culture of violence. Invite him to the commissioners next symposium on gun violence.

  • Funny how the witness is being referred to as the victim when the real victim is the woman being battered by this pos looser.

    • That’s because he was charged only with crimes arising from pointing the gun at the good samaritan. Try to follow along.

      • The Good Samaritan got a lesson about “no good deed goes unpunished”… he’s lucky he didn’t get shot & dead‼️

      • I understand this, what I’m pointing out is that it is ridiculous. Brain dead boomers like yourself cannot read in between the lines.

    • The truth is society is the victim here. More than one felony CONVICTION for every year he’s been an adult. Keep him in prison until he’s f’n old.

  • Looks like he has has mild retardation and may only be acting within his capabilities. I’m sure he is just simply a misunderstood youth with the world at his fingertips. No doubt he will make his mamma happy with his achievements one day.

  • “The officer reported he was unable to locate the woman”…

did the officer locate the gun in the video?

What brand and caliber was the gun?
