GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On February 1, 2025, Shaquill Ji’juan Walker was acquitted by a jury on both charges in this incident, battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Walker was originally arrested on March 4, 2024, after a woman said he had choked her and threatened to shoot her. He was initially held without bail but was ordered released on his own recognizance in June. Following a trial held this week, a jury fully acquitted him on both charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Stories like this make me think that we need to make it much more difficult for people to obtain guns, not less. And when I say more difficult, I mean just have more hoops that people need to go through before they can legally own a handgun. And one of the requirements needs to be a basic IQ Test. And if it was up to me this basic IQ Test would need to be passed in order to vote as well. I can almost assure you that having a high IQ is positively correlated with being a responsible gun owner. Similarly, having an IQ level in the bottom 1/3 should disqualify you from being able to legally own a firearm.

    • That’s a horrible idea. This type of violence has much more to do with morals and ethics, not IQ. Smart criminals are much more dangerous than dumb ones.

    • Everyday, the Alachua Chronicle features stories of criminals with illegally obtained firearms. Making them more difficult to obtain will only penalize people like me.

None of the allegations in this story make me think he shouldn’t be able to have a gun.

    • It’s a grand idea, when people have low IQs they can not make good, safe decisions, More likely spiteful, revenge, get back at people –that kind of thinking.

  • To real johnny. I know plenty of people that hunt that have low IQ’s that are responsible gun owners. I might be one of them. I’ve been hit in the head a few times in my life and I have trouble putting puzzles together. That doesn’t make me a bad firearm owner. Duh.

  • A low IQ really isn’t a measurable thing to determine ownership of a commodity. However, a low credit score definitely is. Car insurance rates, loan rates and obtainability, etc., are both items that check a credit score to determine “behavior”. At what number do we set the standard, any number on the FICO scale below a “good” rating? The gun violence will continue whether IQ or a credit score is checked. The seemingly perpetual stupidity of committing gun violence is a cancer by those who have no morals and live by no rules. That 5% of the population make it tough on the other 95% of extremely responsible gun owners.
