Gainesville man arrested after fleeing from police in tow truck

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Christopher Evan Luca, 38, was arrested early this morning and charged with domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, domestic felony battery as a repeat offender, trespassing, resisting an officer without violence, and fleeing from a police officer after allegedly fleeing at high speed from officers in a tow truck.

Gainesville Police Department officers responded to a call about a man choking a woman at about 12:45 a.m., an incident that was reportedly witnessed by another resident of her apartment building. The witness reported that after he interrupted the incident, the man drove away at a high rate of speed in a tow truck.

An officer tried to conduct a traffic stop on the tow truck, but the driver reportedly “made no apparent effort to stop driving,” including running a red light. Officers ended the pursuit because of the risk to the general public.

At about 1:10 a.m., officers found the tow truck outside Luca’s residence; officers saw Luca walking nearby and ordered him to stop walking away, but Luca reportedly ran away from officers before being Tasered and taken into custody.

Post Miranda, Luca denied touching the woman.

Luca has a previous conviction for domestic battery, making this charge a felony. He has four misdemeanor domestic battery convictions and is also facing a child abuse charge stemming from a March 2023 arrest.

  • This guy thinks he is above the law. He will never change. Lock him up and keep him away from women. His Mama must be proud.

  • His attractive neck tattoo says Humble in Defeat. I guess we will see. What a loser!!

  • Ha,ha, he might as well been dressed as Bozo in a clown car. Those tattoos will make him easy to find even with a year head start. What an idiot. Keep him caged.

  • Do you think he still has a job with the tow company?
38 and still doesn’t get it.

      • Jenn, probably not working there anymore. He was driving a tow truck when the cops were chasing him. Thank God the patients are safe from him.

  • Throw this loser in the can for a long sentence. He’s a scumbag and doesn’t deserve to be loose again.

  • This dude must not know what a diamond tattoo means in prison. Ha! He’ll find out if he has judge Colaw like I did. The straight boys will have fun with him after they find out he’s a woman beater and the gay boys will when they see that diamond.

  • Another preventable domestic crisis, if only housing developers stopped forcing creeps to shack up with others “to share expenses”.

  • Maybe a tattoo of a big “L” for loser on his forehead would cure him.he looks like a middle aged Frat Boy that never grew up.

  • Another candidate for Mr. Hutchinson’s “central receiving facility”.

  • The sad part of the story is the women that choose to be with these guys and wind up getting abused, come on ladies you can do better than this. Stay safe.

  • And he’s out!! Judge Ferrara allowed him to post bail. Unbelievable. Clearly he doesn’t respect or obey the law. Y’all take notes. These judges and commissioners create this atmosphere of lawlessness. Look him up and see his history of domestic charges which includes child abuse.
