GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Orrin Glenn Newsome, 66, was arrested yesterday for allegedly knocking a woman’s front teeth out with a cane.
The responding Gainesville Police Department officer reported that at about 8 p.m. on April 24, Newsome and the victim were arguing in their home when Newsome allegedly hit the victim twice in the head with a walking cane, causing the victim’s two front teeth to fall out. The victim reportedly pushed the cane back toward Newsome, which caused an injury to his forehead.
The officer reported that there were blood droplets in the hallway and on the cane, and the location of the blood droplets was consistent with the victim’s account of the incident; Newsome reportedly said the fight occurred in the bedroom, while he was lying on the bed.
Newsome has been charged with domestic aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He has eight felony convictions (non-violent), two misdemeanor convictions (non-violent), and two traffic convictions. Domestic battery charges were previously dropped in 2020 and 2021. Judge Donna Keim set bail at $50,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
