Gainesville man arrested for attempted murder

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

Quentin Neatedrick Black, 22, was arrested today and charged with attempted first degree murder in the May 14 shooting of Louis Andrew Martin, Jr.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the corner of SW 67th Terrace and SW 4th Place at 5:40 p.m. on May 14 after receiving reports of gunshots and a person who had been shot. Deputies found Martin with several gunshots to his torso and immediately transported him to UF Health Shands with life-threatening wounds.

No witnesses in the area reported seeing the actual shooting, but five spent shell casings were found at the crime scene. Deputies developed information that someone known as “YG” had been in the area; the report states that “YG” is known as “a common subject in recent law enforcement incidents” in the area. “YG” was identified as Black.

Black was arrested in 2019 and 2020 for drug possession, but charges in both cases were dropped. He has now been charged with attempted first degree murder (premeditated) and is being held on $1,000,000 bond.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • The SWAG Family Care Center around the corner should be defunded. Rescind the sales tax and change the next tax referendum for GPD and ASO pay raises instead. Then SELL the courthouses, various downtown “justice” offices, and move them to ex-GRACE-Tacachale hub. With no air conditioning.

  • Great job ASO. Hopefully the folks in that neighborhood can sleep better now. Its unfortunate that it has taken somebody getting shot, and maybe killed, for the courts to get this guy off the street.
