Gainesville man arrested for brandishing gun in Alachua road rage incident

Staff report

ALACHUA, Fla. – Glenn David MacCallum, 51, of Gainesville, was arrested yesterday for pointing a gun at another car in a road rage incident in Alachua.

At about 8:55 a.m. on June 21, an Alachua Police Department officer responded to a call from the victims, who said a man pointed a gun at them and their child without provocation.

The officer found a vehicle driving on U.S. Hwy 441 that matched the description provided by the victims and conducted a high-risk traffic stop. The driver, identified as MacCallum, was detained, and a loaded black pistol was reportedly found in a holster inside his waistband.

Post Miranda, MacCallum reportedly did not wish to speak to the officer about the incident.

The victims reportedly identified MacCallum “without a shadow of a doubt” as the man who had pointed a gun at them; they also described the black pistol.

MacCallum was also allegedly driving without a valid license; his license was suspended indefinitely in September 2024.

Updated on June 23: MacCallum has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and knowingly driving with a suspended license. He has no criminal history, and Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing and added to the $250 bail for the traffic charge.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • If a suspended license doesn’t keep him from driving, $250 bail probably won’t prevent him from making threats.

  • License was probably suspended for not paying child support. The gun charges well he was just being stupid and immature to let bad driving habits fuel anger. His choices will have consequences.

    • Is a license suspension for non-payment of child support a thing? That makes no sense. How is a person going to make a living and pay child support is they are left on their shoe leather?

    • This Dead beat dad is running around with a gun tucked in his waistband. Well he doesn’t care about his own kids it’s no wonder that he would point guns at other people’s kids typical wing nut

  • I cannot stress enough how stupid it is to pull a gun in a road rage situation, you’re going to run into someone else with a gun and you’re going to get killed. Jail is the “lucky” outcome for this dude.

    • I am in total agreement. If one ‘pulls a gun’ without full intent of using it, they may be shot. Pulling a gun is a certain death sentence with a LEO and a genuine possibility with all others.

  • I lived in Miami for years among some of the WORST drivers in the country (statistically speaking). I thus get the irrational anger known as road rage. HOWEVER, stop pulling your gun out in response. Flip ’em off, call them some colorful words, but STOP it with the guns.

This is the second story in as many weeks about someone in our county brandishing a gun over allegedly bad driving

  • What kind of idiot a) drives without a license and b) road rages knowing that??

Sounds like he’s one of those very fine people who worships the guy currently infesting the WH.

  • The $250 is the bail for the criminal traffic charge. He is being held without bond on the gun charges.

And yes, losing your license for not paying your child support is a thing; the government had originally thought that would serve as an incentive to pay for your responsibilities…..

  • thank you gov desantis for allowing people to buy and carry guns in their waste band, i feel so much safer.

  • Something I note consistently is that there are always way more non-White offenders than White. Today out of 16 arrests in mug shots, two are White. And this is pretty typical. This needs to be discussed and addressed openly to try and find a solution. Rather then swept under the rug in the name of political correctness.

      • Again, you cannot refute the facts I presented so you resort to making inane comments.

    • Steely Dan would you prefer that cops begin to look for reasons to lock up more whites for the sake of ‘equity’ and ‘quotas’. We were headed in that direction until Trump got elected. Be care fun what you wish for…

      • No, of course not. I merely pointed out a statistical fact. Blacks commit more crimes. than any other race.

PS I’m a Trump voter and supporter.
