Gainesville man arrested for cutting man with knife during argument
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Darius Trevion Campbell, 27, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly cutting a man with a knife during an argument.
At about 10:38 a.m. on July 9, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to 404 S. Main Street, where the victim reportedly said he had been arguing with Campbell when Campbell armed himself with a knife and lunged at him, cutting his fingers. The officer reported that the victim required stitches for the cuts.
Post Miranda, Campbell reportedly said he had been defending himself because the victim pulled out a knife first, but the officer noted that instead of retreating, Campbell “continued to antagonize” the victim.
The officer reported that the incident was captured on surveillance video.
Campbell has a juvenile criminal history between 2011 and 2014, seven adult felony convictions (one violent), and one misdemeanor conviction (non-violent). He has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2018. He is also facing a sworn complaint for aggravated battery for allegedly hitting another worker in the head with a shovel at a construction site in March. Judge Kristine Van Vorst ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
404 S. Main is a perp magnet convenience store between the Fancy courthouse, Lynch Park and St. Francis House. How convenient.
He’s being held so he won’t run to Atlanta.
We need to have a vagrant crime & panhandler summit….they should add it to their gun crime thing that ain’t working…
He’ll be held for 40 days & released without any charges being brought.
Good ol’ Orange n Blue store 🙄
Another fine candidate for Mayor Wards Ambassador of the Year Award.

That’s a stand your ground legal case. Here in Florida you don’t have to retreat. He should never have been arrested.
It’s obvious that the stand your ground only applies to whites, not to blacks.
Free bed and 3 squares? Not a bad deal.
To know this option as a retirement plan.
It’s not his fault, knives are too easy to access…
