Gainesville man arrested for distributing child pornography, allegedly posed as young girl in chats
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Havin Alexander McGeady, 27, was arrested yesterday and charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of distributing child pornography; he allegedly posed as a young girl in Snapchat chats and traded images and videos with other accounts.
The case began with a CyberTip on December 30, 2023, from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which reported that a Snapchat account contained child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Gainesville Police Department received information from various subpoenas indicating that the account’s login IP address was from a Cox account owned by someone associated with McGeady; a second subpoena found that a second login IP address was from a Cox account owned by McGeady; a third IP address in Massachusetts was found to belong to a family member of McGeady.
The Snapchat account used a nonexistent email address; chats from the Snapchat account reportedly revealed that the account solicited or distributed 29 CSAM videos or images and solicited CSAM from at least 15 other users who identified themselves as minors and as adults. In chats with other users, the person using the account posed as a girl of different ages between 9 and 13 years old.
A second CyberTip was received on February 16 from NCMEC about another Snapchat account distributing CSAM. A subpoena for the IP address used to log in to that account reportedly revealed that the internet account belonged to McGeady. A subpoena to Snapchat reportedly produced five videos/images showing pre-pubescent females that were allegedly sent to another Snapchat account.
On April 30, a search warrant was executed at McGeady’s apartment. Post Miranda, McGeady initially denied knowing anything about the second Snapchat account but reportedly later admitted to creating and owning the account. He reportedly admitted possessing, distributing, and soliciting CSAM with that account.
McGeady reportedly said he had been struggling with being attracted to minors and viewing CSAM for about three years; he said he knew it was wrong and that he had been attending meetings at a church to help with his addiction to child pornography.
When asked about the first Snapchat account, McGeady reportedly admitted to creating and owning the account and said that he used it to possess, distribute, and solicit CSAM. He reportedly recognized content that Snapchat had provided to law enforcement from that account and estimated that the child in one of the videos was 11 or 12 years old.
The arrest report includes a number of chats that were reportedly retrieved from the first account. In them, the account owner claims to be a girl between the ages of 9 and 13 who likes “girl stuff” and is a “lesbian duhhh.” The account asks for images of “like 12 and younger 13 oldesttt,” and another message from the account says, “You got like young girls at all? Like 10-11?”
McGeady has been charged with two counts of distribution of child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography; in each case, the two counts are for the two Snapchat accounts.
McGeady has no local criminal history; Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $100,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â
I don’t get it. How dose these sick bastards fine a young girl sexy it should be automatically the death penalty.
Those at church who harbored him while he solicited photos from underage children have some serious reflecting to do upon themselves.
Please explain what you are saying.
He is sick and his problem can’t be fixed.
Past time to start exterminating these monsters
There are so many things wrong with this case. The church needs to be looked at for possible knowledge. This guy has accounts up and down the east coast. Probably need to make sure this is not more family is not involved. Too much trouble setting accounts all over for a claimed 3 year problem. Culling is definitely in order
