Gainesville man arrested for lewd and lascivious battery of a juvenile

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sky Ahren Moyer, 44, was arrested yesterday and charged with eight felonies related to sexual misconduct with a juvenile victim.

The incidents were recently reported to the Department of Children and Families and investigated by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, but they took place several years ago, when the victim was 13 years old. The victim said Moyer sent her sexually explicit text messages and photos, offered to buy her sex toys, and showed her pornographic material; as his behavior escalated, the victim said, he also allegedly raped her. Moyer also allegedly took photos of the victim and used photo editing software to remove her clothing; the victim said she was concerned that Moyer would distribute the photos.

Post Miranda, Moyer reportedly denied ever having sexual contact with the victim but said he was not sure if there would be any nude photos of the victim on his devices. He reportedly admitted to purchasing at least one sex toy and giving it to the victim.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies executed a search warrant at Moyer’s residence and reportedly found several objects that matched the descriptions provided by the victim.

Moyer has been charged with four counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a victim between the ages of 12 and 16, lewd and lascivious conduct, lewd and lascivious exhibition with a victim under the age of 16, showing obscene material to a minor, and using a two-way communications device to facilitate a felony.

Moyer has no local criminal history. Judge Kristine Van Vorst ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
