Gainesville man arrested for pulling gun out in parking lot of Carver Gardens
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Malik Ny’kei Wilson, 27, was arrested yesterday after allegedly pulling out a gun in the parking lot of Carver Gardens Apartments and breaking items inside his girlfriend’s apartment.
A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to Carver Gardens (1101 SE 15th Street) at about 4:49 p.m. on February 28, where the victim said she had met Wilson at her apartment to give him her car, but he went inside and started throwing dishes around her apartment, causing about $50 in damage.
The victim reportedly stayed outside while Wilson was breaking things inside the apartment, and Wilson allegedly came outside holding a handgun, opened the car door, and told her to get out of the car; he reportedly held the gun down by his side and did not point it at her. A friend reportedly stepped between the victim and Wilson, and Wilson allegedly went back inside the apartment and broke more items.
A search of the victim’s apartment reportedly produced a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine, hidden in an ottoman in the living room, and a Highpoint 9mm rifle that had been placed on a bed. The officer also reported finding broken dishes on the floor and a hole in a door in the hallway.
Post Miranda, Wilson reportedly admitted that he was holding a handgun when he told the victim to get out of the car and that he regularly carries a gun for protection. He reportedly admitted breaking dishes in the victim’s apartment because he was upset with the way she spoke to him and said he put the handgun in the ottoman and was holding the rifle for “someone.”
Wilson has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and property damage under $200. He has one felony (violent). A sworn complaint was filed in January for a similar incident against the same victim in October 2024, but the charges were dropped a few weeks ago. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $5,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â
Who’s breaking things now?
Time for some to stop blaming today’s society for the crimes some people keep committing.
Life’s full of choices, not my fault or anyone else’s this idiot made a bad one. Don’t let people coerce you into believing any different.
And “Carver Gardens” sounds like such a nice place.
Convicted felon w/ a gun, aggravated assault, both felonies, with a mere $5,000 bail? How does this convince violent minded people to not have a gun. This one had an oversize magazine. Judge Susan Jones seems even worse than the other one.
A convicted felon with 2 guns and only a $5000 bail? That means $500 to Rotney Long and he’s out…maybe the apostrophe drove him mad.
Whatever happened to all the money they are spending on their gun violence crisis emergency summit thing…
This guy knew or should have known not to be near or holding someone’ else’s rifle…probably another convicted felon’s rifle… this felon should get 10 years in prison,
Not post $500 and be out.
just a normal day
Someone must have been disrespected.
Similar incident, violent felon with a gun, $5,000 bond. WTF?
