Gainesville man arrested for punching Walmart employee after dispersal of large crowd trying to steal merchandise

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Xavier Stephon Keith, 22, was arrested yesterday after Walmart employees dispersed a large crowd of people who were trying to steal merchandise, then a man who had argued with an employee left the store and came back with Keith, who allegedly punched the employee.

According to the arrest report, there was a large crowd of individuals who attempted to steal merchandise from Walmart (5700 NW 23rd Street), and the victim and several other employees attempted to disperse the crowd. An unknown man who was part of the crowd got into a verbal argument with the victim, then left the store and returned a short time later with Keith.

Keith and the unidentified man confronted the victim at the entrance of the store, and Keith allegedly punched the victim as he walked away, then fled on foot from the store. A Gainesville Police Department officer found Keith a short time later, but he allegedly fled on foot from officers and was detained a short time later.

The victim reportedly identified Keith as the man who punched him, and the officer reported that the incident was captured on surveillance video.

Keith has been charged with simple battery and resisting an officer without violence. He has no local criminal history. Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard set bail at $30,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • The ONLY thing that will stop things like this and the violence by criminals is to enforce the law and put those found guilty in prison and stop dropping charges and slapping wrists.

      • You sadly lack standards and any awareness of how you helped screw you and yours already victimized by the bigots you stand with. I will have no sympathies for people who are the slugs that chose salt.

      • lol who did you really think you were voting for? You encouraged this type of thinking when you voted for trump. Wake up. This is what they say when you aren’t around.

        • Indi: What did Trump do to you?🦗🎶

Exactly, you can’t name one thing!🤣
Look in the mirror! You are the racist and the bigot!

          • Those are unfair accusations. Do you even *know* that fellow internet stranger before judging who they are and what they believe?

Your approach is a big part of the problem with politics today. Too many people make kneejerk reactions and judge others with too little information. That leads to having a false sense of confidence about what you are accusing them of, in other words, weaving a “strawman” about who and what they are.

We wouldn’t be here if people embraced critical thinking and didn’t be so quick to judge and have just winning an argument and not meaningfully hashing stuff out as top priority.

Enjoy Trump’s tariffs, by the way, assuming you know how they work. I guess you don’t based on how nonplussed you seem about what he’s openly stated his administration will do to the nation.

If you happen to be a person of color, it will negatively impact you more than whites, I guarantee it.

          • Alan, talk about you’re self reflection. You preach of accusations and then immediately attack Trump and assume anyone of color will suffer. Nice … go get yourself some Legos and a cookie.

          • Sports stars are so discriminated against. Must be from Individual merit, right?
            🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

          • *you’re

Get yourself an education. You are a naive failure of an “adult” if you doubt those people will suffer. Laughable so many of you support somebody who’d happily profit off *everybody* hand over fist.

          • Why is that? Because Trump will put a tariff on wigs from China? Name some other reasons if you can. Thanks

      • I’m of mixed race and I have been Pro Trump since 2015. So aren’t we good then. What else would you call a California styled theft attempt in the Berkley East of Florida?

        • ..That’s a long time to be so wrong . Sucks to be you. And to be so critical of where you live. Alachua still voted blue.. Maybe time to move..just a thought

          • Alachua will be purple and then red. People are sick of democrats BS and broken promises. I was right on Trump being re-elected and winning by leaps and bounds. Besides I love living here. Where can I vote red and make liberals whine so much. Go get your Legos, cookies, and juice it’s going to be a long 4 years of awful whining and crying from liberals.

          • Look at you, more interested in celebrating your political opponents’ suffering than in unity of our nation.

            Pathetic.

Putin has won, he’s divided us by convincing you MAGA fools that Republicans actually care about you. They don’t. They make sure red states public schools are bottom ranked in the whole country. They make sure healthcare is ridiculously expensive and want to even get rid of ACA even though so many of you use it and might be goners without it.

You’ll be the one whining, thanks to y’all letting the foxes in the henhouse. You just don’t realize yet. If you had good parenting and a good education growing up, you might actually understand what’s about to happen, but alas, you don’t, and those of us who stuck it out in school and got the piece of paper do, believe me!

  • Gainesville leadership will not stop until Wokesville is like Kamalafornia. State over site is needed. We cannot depend on the lawless . GCC.

      • The left. Consistently proving their ignorance by using insults when facts and logic are no where to be found.

          • Alan: no correction was necessary and so is her hatred
            For Trump..

If he’s so bad, just name one thing he did bad to you…

            🎶🦗

            I’m Listening…zero, just like
            I thought!🤣

          • Trump contributed to the death of my MAGA, “Democrat hoax” believing mother during the pandemic in 2020. Thanks a lot for reminding me. You probably don’t even remember the quote he said while in office his first time around: “If we didn’t do any testing, we would have very few [COVID19] cases.”

Also, by making the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act law in 2017, he made it impossible for 100% remote working Americans like me to make itemized deductions for income tax. That means I can no longer deduct things like property tax for my home office, internet, computer equipment, etc. Mechanics can no longer deduct their often expensive tools, and those workers who need uniforms can’t deduct the cost of those. Sure, he made the standard deduction larger, but all those expenses go well beyond that amount. If you’re unfamiliar and don’t do your own taxes like I do, please, do ask your tax professionals how that act has negatively impacted American working people especially.

Just a couple of small examples given you seem so eager to put words in my mouth and make my answer “zero” as you concluded very much in error.

          • First sorry about your mother Covid killed a lot of people irregardless of their political choices. The second accusation seems to be a problem of your making. You chose to work remotely. I know of several people that have no issues with itemized deductions on tax returns. Maybe get a better tax preparer.

          • Thanks for your condolences.

No, the problem isn’t of my making. Ask literally any mechanic anywhere who buys their own tools, it affects them and they sure don’t work remotely. The ones who don’t have issues probably don’t have as many expenses, which is good. I don’t believe anybody can deduct rent, for example, so remote workers are a bit more taxed anyway.

I’ve prepared my own taxes for years, it’s gone okay. The fact tax laws changed just made it difficult, with a lame token gesture of making the standard deduction amount bigger, which only helps if expenses don’t exceed that amount. If they do, I wind up paying more tax.

        • Spent more days on the golf course than in the WH..
Covered up Covid for 3 months allowing thousands to die.
Is a sex offender.. Nominating 2 other accused offenders for top positions.Going to pardon the thugs who tried to take over the Capitol. Called Proud Boys patriots. Writing “love letters back and forth to Kim. All of his top staff are either against him or in jail.or both. The list is endless. And now be prepared for part 2..If all you working people think he will help you, you are totally blind. He had hundreds of lawsuits against him for stiffing workers who worked for him. He, not any of his family have ever had any political experience to run this country. In fact everything he has done has failed. Trump U.
Trump steaks. Selling bibles, sneakers, stock company. Only his father’s name has kept him afloat. That and his money

        • What is a Captian?
Once again Maga proves their ignorance. If you were a captain of anything…ever… You would know how to spell it… Ignorance is truly bliss in MAGA land

      • Nice with the insults, you just can’t come to terms that people like Trump more than your loser candidate. Trump Derangement is a liberal disease seek medical treatment. It’s going to be a decade of red a the federal and state level.

  • “a large crowd of individuals who attempted to steal merchandise from Walmart”? I’m sure that they were simply trying to avoid the ugly Friday Nov 29 crush, certainly any compassionate judge will understand?

  • If large crowds continue to steal from Walmart, they will close that store.

Hopefully, law enforcement can identify all the thieves with facial recognition and send them notices to appear before a judge.

  • Dunno why I continue to buy stuff when I could just steal it… this is why I don’t go to Walmart. Flash mob looting.

  • Let them people alone. They need to eat if they hungry. The only one that needs to be put in jail is the violent one

  • So he had to come back in the store to defend his boo or boyfriend? Lock this buzzard up for good. No remorse to society

  • Pine Ridge section 8 Walmart. No good deed (retail investment) goes unpunished.
