Gainesville man arrested for racking his gun as a neighbor walked by
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Christopher Xavier Tyson, 50, was arrested early this morning for allegedly racking his gun as a neighbor walked by, causing the neighbor to fear for his safety.
The victim told a responding Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy that he was walking his dog near his home in Holly Heights when he saw Tyson; he said Tyson was speaking incoherently, and he raised his gun and racked the slide while looking at the victim. The victim said this made him afraid for his safety and others’ safety. He said Tyson put the gun back down at his side and walked inside his residence.
The victim also said that a few days ago, Tyson showed him the firearm and said, “I want you to see this [expletive]” in a threatening manner.
Post Miranda, Tyson reportedly said he bought the gun three days ago to defend himself. He said the victim is out to get him and only called law enforcement because the victim wants to get into his house. He denied ever using the firearm in a threatening manner.
The deputy noted that Tyson was intoxicated.
A search warrant for Tyson’s home was obtained, and deputies reportedly recovered a black semi-automatic handgun and a silver pellet gun.
Tyson has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has one felony conviction (violent) and two misdemeanor convictions (non-violent). Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $10,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the victim, possess no firearms, and consume no alcohol or illegal drugs.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Gotta hate the black guns that plague our society. Especially when they jump unknowingly into convicted felon’s hands. This guy probably did everything he could to fight off that gun jumping in his hand.
With all the policies inviting and housing many homeless individuals in Gainesville, there are times I fear for my life and the life of my family. Can the Commissioners be arrested?
No really, doesn’t fear make for a good deterrent? If true, the left-leaning voters may want to put serious thought into re-electing this group who does more for the homeless than they do for tax-paying residents.
Holly Heights, hmm is that a Section 8 landlord condo complex? How many landlords are lawyers and drug dealers?
ACLUSPLCDNC 👹💩👺👿🤡
Will they also arrest the seller of said handgun? Doesn’t that constitute a “strawman purchase”? A felon bought the gun from someone that can purchase legally, and didn’t complete a back ground check. More arrests should be made in this case, look through the phone I’m sure he text someone to tell them where he bought it. Alachua county doesn’t have a firearm problem it has a problem with Felons getting guns.
Hey Judge. This dude is a convicted felons in possession of a firearm. Isn’t that a felony? Why bail? Keep him off the streets until his trial.
