Gainesville man arrested for shooting at his mother
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Brandon Dwayne Holsey, 33, was arrested yesterday morning and charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting at his mother while she was trying to leave the house during an argument.
Gainesville Police Department officers responded to a call about shots fired in the area of 1500 NE 16th Avenue at about 7:48 a.m. yesterday morning. The victim reportedly told an officer that she had been arguing with Holsey, her son, about his behavior after she heard him arguing with an unknown female in a vehicle outside the residence. She said the woman had been asking Holsey to get out of the vehicle, and when she also asked him to get out of the vehicle, they started arguing. She said she gathered her purse and keys to leave and call 911, and Holsey shot at her five times as she was leaving. She fled the area and called 911.
Other people in the residence told officers they heard the gunshots and saw Holsey inside the residence, where he was reportedly breaking things because he was upset. One witness reported seeing a pistol in Holsey’s hand and said Holsey tried to hit the front window with the gun, but the gun flew out the front window and the magazine dropped on the floor inside the residence. One witness reportedly picked up the magazine and put it in his pocket while Holsey was looking for the gun.
Post Miranda, Holsey reportedly denied being under the influence of any substance and acted surprised when he was asked about the gunshots. He reportedly said he never hurt the victim and then stopped answering questions.
Officers reportedly found five shell casings on the front porch and found the gun in the front yard. The witness reportedly produced the magazine.
Holsey was previously arrested in 2011 for possession of alcohol by a person under 21, giving false identification information to an officer, and resisting arrest; he entered a plea of nolo contendere to the alcohol possession and resisting arrest charges and was fined $416. As part of the deal, the fraudulent ID charge was dropped and adjudication of guilt was withheld.
Bail information is unavailable on weekends.

Unbelievable how can you shoot at your mother
Don’t forget that Wacko Saco shot a bird at city employees.
Better to throw her from a train.
Called it
It’s a shame he didn’t try suicide by cop the sorry bastard don’t need to be breathing
That’s so true 😞
Yet another fine example of the exceptional rocket scientists living in Gainesville. 33 years old and still living at home with Mama. Thank God he didnt kill her.
Don’t blame him for living with mom. With the high utility rates and taxes he probably can’t afford to live on his own.
Given his lifestyle probably not. He probably could get housing on his own. Need to be grown up for that.
It cost about $4.00 a day at the jail so he better get himself a job quick.
I thought the County recently voted to let inmates stay for free?
Changed the ad too…If you do the crime, we’ll pay with our dime.
He probably has student loan debt.
Sorry to say, no one will testify against him. Charges will be dropped to a misdemeanor domestic.
He will have to take anger management classes. Next time victims will not be as lucky.
Where is his daddy? Could have all been prevented.
As they say, in certain areas, Father’s Day creates mass confusion
even if his mom and dad were together, do you really think he could have stopped something like this? if he was home?? sounds like the man has some serious unresolved issues that no one can help.
Sounds like the fitting name of a country song, Mama’s don’t let your babies grow up to shoot at you!
This is what happens when child tax credits and subsidized housing incentivize offspring.
