Gainesville man arrested for shooting into relatives’ home

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Darius Yarnell Wilson, 27, was arrested last night after allegedly pushing his way into the home of two family members, battering one of them, and then shooting into the home as he drove away.

On July 29, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the victims’ home and found that several bullets had been fired into the home. One of the victims said that at about 4:45 p.m., Wilson had unexpectedly arrived at the home, demanded his belongings, and tried to open the front door to come inside. The victim said she opened the front door and Wilson pushed her to the floor, climbed on top of her, and repeatedly slammed her head into the floor. The second victim pushed Wilson off the first victim, and he reportedly fled to his vehicle, which was parked behind the residence. As he fled, the victims said, they heard multiple gunshots.

Both victims said they had not had any communication with Wilson since 2021 and he does not have any belongings at their residence; they said they could not understand his aggressive behavior.

A neighbor also reportedly heard a “loud commotion,” followed by multiple gunshots, but she did not see who fired the gun.

A search of the area reportedly produced 13 9mm shells near where the victims said Wilson’s vehicle had been parked, and six rounds were found near the eastern end of the residence. One bullet was found in the second victim’s bedroom, which is on the western end of the residence, indicating the it had traveled the entire length of the home, passing through the first victim’s bedroom, the living room, and all of the second victim’s bedroom before hitting a dresser.

A doorbell camera reportedly captured video of Wilson trying to enter the residence and “acting belligerently.”

Wilson’s vehicle was found at Bellamy Grand Apartments (2625 SW 75th Street) at about 7 p.m., and a witness provided Wilson’s apartment number. Wilson reportedly denied consent to search his vehicle, but deputies reported that there was a Smith & Wesson range bag in plain view, and it looked like a gun was in the bag. The vehicle was towed until a search warrant could be obtained.

A deputy reported that on the way to the jail, Wilson said to a deputy, “I work for the DOC (Department of Corrections). I’m going to use law enforcement databases to find out where you live and rape all of your wives.” Wilson reportedly refused to answer questions from Court Services about where he worked.

Wilson has been charged with burglary with battery, burglary of an occupied dwelling, six counts of firing into a dwelling, and 12 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has no criminal history. Judge Meshon Rawls ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • I think he meant to say he was with the department of correction up till the moment handcuffs were slapped on him.

  • No history? Was he groomed in SWAG area for 27 yrs, but just a slow learner?
Bellamy Grand condos should think about changing name, or stop renting to just anybody. Most units are probably owned by lawyers.

  • When he threatened to find their wives and rape them would have been a great time for them to find an abandoned dirt road.

  • Bellamay grand apartments is on tower road. Years ago was nice but has turned into another “Mike Zone” crap hole. They are not condos. You may have been thinking of Bellamy Forge condos on 43rdst.
