Gainesville man arrested for stalking and aggravated battery
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Keith Gerard Miles, 41, was arrested last night on a warrant for aggravated stalking, felony domestic battery, and property damage; he was also charged with resisting an officer without violence after allegedly running from a traffic stop.
An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop at about 10:45 p.m. on August 19 in the 2500 block of NE 3rd Place, and the deputy reported that the front seat passenger, later identified as Miles, got out of the vehicle. When he was told to get back in the vehicle, he allegedly ran and was tased after a foot pursuit. While he was being handcuffed, he reportedly said that he ran because he had an active warrant.
The warrant was for a July 29 incident in which he allegedly waited for the victim at a place she visits regularly; when she arrived, Miles allegedly pushed her to the ground and then “clotheslined” her when she stood up, knocking her back to the ground. A witness reportedly confirmed the victim’s account of the incident and said Miles hit the victim in the face at least one more time when she tried to stand up.
The responding Gainesville Police Department officer noted that the victim had scrapes and scratches all over her body, her wig had been pulled off, and she was covered in dirt and sand.
Miles also allegedly kicked the victim’s vehicle repeatedly, causing visible dents and scratches, estimated at over $1,000 to repair.
Miles allegedly left after kicking the vehicle but came back a short time later and threatened the victim with statements like, “Your life ends today,” while reaching toward his waistband. The victim reportedly told the officer that she believed he would kill her and that Miles is know to carry a gun.
Miles has five felony convictions (one violent) and eight misdemeanor convictions (one violent). He has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2014. Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $120,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â
