Gainesville man arrested for staring into woman’s window and exposing himself

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Deshaun Malik Johnson, 28, was arrested yesterday for allegedly loitering outside a window in the Brighton Park condominium complex and then exposing himself when the victim left her residence out of fear.

The victim told a responding Gainesville Police Department officer that she saw a man looking into her window while he was sitting at a picnic table about 10 feet from her residence. She said he stayed there for at least 45 minutes, making her so uneasy that she contacted law enforcement and walked to her car to get away from him.

The victim said that when she walked out of her front door, the man approached her, holding his exposed genitals in his hand and masturbating. The victim left in her vehicle, but she came back a short time later and called 911 when she saw that the man was still there.

An officer made contact with Johnson near the entrance of the complex, and the victim identified him as the man she had seen outside her unit.

Post Miranda, Johnson reportedly said he was cutting through the complex to go to McDonald’s; when asked whether his genitals had been exposed, Johnson reportedly said he had exposed his genitals to urinate. He later admitted to exposing himself and “shaking it” at the victim; he said this was not sexually motivated, but he was just being an “a**hole.”

The officer noted that Johnson was not wearing any undergarments. The officer also noted that Johnson’s claim that he was “cutting through” did not seem to be true because he had been outside the victim’s unit for an extended period of time and had looked into the window of at least one residence. The officer also noted that the complex is fenced and located on a dead end, and he was unable to locate any “clear path or cut-through.”

Johnson, who is a designated career offender, has been charged with loitering/prowling and indecent exposure. He has six felony convictions (non-violent) and four misdemeanor convictions (non-violent) and has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2024. Judge Jonathan Ramsey set bail at $7,500.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Everybody, write to Lawyer DeSantis right now and tell him to do something about repeat offenders, SCUMMY judges and public attorneys! Make a deal with Puerto Rico and then shut down 90% of law degrees in Fla, next.

  • How does a career offender under state guidelines get such low Bail. He was released from prison less then two years ago. So if he gets out and decides to take the next step and rape a girl or better yet go to the judge’s house and peek and pull through the window -will the judge have any remorse?
