Gainesville man arrested for stealing car, then charged with damaging patrol car

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Pedro Ramon Peace, 37, was arrested yesterday and charged with grand theft of a vehicle and property damage after allegedly stealing a car and then damaging a patrol car while being transported to jail.

The victim reported that his car was stolen on February 11 when he and Peace were helping someone in the Woodland Park area and Peace jumped into the car and drove off, without permission. A Gainesville Police Department officer located the car yesterday morning at the Phoenix Super Food Store and reported that he found Peace sitting in the driver’s seat of the car. According to the officer’s report, Peace spontaneously said he didn’t steal the car and that the owner might be inside the store. The officer reported that the owner was not inside the store and could not be reached.

The officer reported that while he was transporting Peace to jail, Peace slipped his cuffs to the front and threw something out of the open window of the patrol car; he then began pulling on both rear door handles and ripped off one of the interior door handles. He reportedly hit the inside of the car with the handcuffs and kicked with enough force to shake the patrol car, causing additional cosmetic damage.

Peace has been charged with auto theft and criminal mischief. He has six felony convictions and has served one state prison sentence for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, shooting into a building, and criminal mischief. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $7,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Governor DeSantis, please suspend Judge Susan Miller Jones for coddling career criminals. This one is a violent felon convicted of gun violence. Where is three strikes and you’re out?

    • If enough of us scream loud enough, hopefully DeSantis will hear us. She and Kramer need to go. From now on every chance I get I’m going to bend Kat’s ear. Maybe she can take the message to the governor.

    • Well Roger you should be complaining to uncle Ronnie to make the laws more tougher.. the blueprint is there.. you are right thus guy shouldn’t be on the street.. but he needs to go after criminals like he goes after Mickey.. or the fake Boogeyman 🙄 known as Wokeness.. nobody wins in culture wars..

      • Geezus we have the laws to keep pos like this taken care of if only the State Attorney and the Judges would do their jobs and at least try and keep law abiding citizens SAFE.

      • Today Gov. Ron started cracking down on greedy “a accident attorneys”. I hope it’s just the start of a badly needed purge…

  • The cash bail is less than cost of repairing the police equipment, let alone the damage he likely caused to the victim’s car. To be clear, the person whose car was stolen was the victim, not the arrestee. This judge seems to get it mixed up a lot.

    • Gilberto Dominguez: I’d bet you’d be complaining if he stole your car….he has a Hispanic name “Pedro Ramon” like you… don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.

  • Another section 8 crime-breeding byproduct. Housing designed by lawyers solely to breed crime and pay off law skool loans sooner. When will voters wake up?
