Gainesville man arrested on child pornography charges after officers report finding thousands of images
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Robert Russell Godwin, 70, was arrested yesterday and charged with 12 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a Cybertip on August 27 from Microsoft regarding child sexual abuse material (CSAM) that was uploaded to BingImage. Microsoft provided the IP address and upload date and times.
The IP address belonged to a Cox Communications subscriber in Gainesville, and a subpoena issued to Cox produced Godwin’s name and address.
Gainesville Police Department served a search warrant at Godwin’s home yesterday morning, and when officers asked Godwin if he is attracted to children, he reportedly said he would not discuss that with them.
A search of the residence reportedly found a desktop computer in Godwin’s workshop; two USB drives were plugged into the computer, and a preview of the computer and the two drives reportedly revealed over three thousand CSAM images, some of which depict infants and young children being raped. A search also reportedly produced four large binders containing about 1,000 images of printed CSAM and child erotica.
Detectives noted that “numerous” devices have yet to be searched.
Bail information is not public due to the nature of the charges; Godwin has lived in the area since at least 1977 and has no local criminal history.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Bail info not public, since when do lawyer-makers not allow that and why? This guy won’t last too long in jail, awaiting his plea bargain. Lawyers no doubt will find a way to keep him alive as long as possible 🤑👹🤡👹🍦🍦
This pervert needs life in prison. He will never change and look at all the children’s lives he has helped to ruin.
Better a millstone be tied around his neck …
This guy needs to be locked up. However imagine the flip side of this, some hacker gets your internet IP address, then uses it in an IP spoofing scheme to where the cops come looking for you. Imagine the cops knocking on your door with a search warrant wanting your computer, and you having to try to convince them it isn’t you!
Imagine being HACKED? Really?? Is that all you could come up? Are you trying to make it positive for A CERTAIN TYPE OF PERSON?? He had over 1,000 printed images!!🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ FOUR LARGE BINDERS AT THAT!!!
