Press release from Gainesville Police Department
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, the Gainesville Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Division, with the assistance of GPD SWAT, served a search warrant at 3406 SW 31st DR #24A. The investigation was prompted after GPD received two Cyber Tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The Cyber Tips indicated that a Snapchat and a Kik user shared media of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) through their platforms.
Further investigation by Gainesville Police Department Detective Montague revealed that the media on Snapchat and Kik was likely shared from the same user who resided at 3406 SW 31st DR #24A. The user, and likely suspect, was determined to be Jared Branham (W/M, 09-24-1987). A review of communication from the Snapchat account revealed that Branham chatted in a sexually graphic manner with a self-reported 13-year-old girl. Branham also received a nude image from the same 13-year-old girl.
Branham was contacted at his place of employment and interviewed by Detective Montague. Branham initially stated he didn’t specifically remember sending the images but acknowledged sending illegal content over the last year; citing that he did it for the thrill/excitement. Sanitized images were reviewed with Branham and he recognized two of the videos that were child sexual abuse material.
Branham was arrested for four counts of distribution of child exploitation material and one count of transmitting lewd or lascivious exhibition material.
The Gainesville Police Department wants parents to be aware that children are being solicited and exploited through social networking applications. These social networking applications, like Facebook, KiK, Snapchat, TikTok, and Tagged are also used to share images and videos that depict young children being sexually abused. Please be vigilant and aware of any social networking platforms your children may access and talk to them about it.
