Gainesville man charged with assaulting neighbor over road incident

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ryan Thomas Ash, 37, was arrested early this morning and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly beating a neighbor with a wooden dowel after a road incident.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report from the victim, who said he had been driving on NW 142nd Avenue when Ash approached him from the rear. The victim said he sped up and turned off the road toward his home, but since he was going so fast, he passed his house and drove to the end of the road to turn around. The victim said Ash used his vehicle to block the roadway and approached the victim’s truck with a wooden dowel in his hand, then beat the victim and his truck with the dowel. The victim said he was in fear for his life.

The deputy made contact with Ash, who reportedly said the victim had run his wife off the road that afternoon and that they have an ongoing problem with the victim’s aggressive driving. Ash reportedly said he waited for the victim to drive by their house and followed him home and reportedly admitted to threatening the victim, saying, “I’m sure I did.”

Ash is being held on $15,000 bail.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Too bad the victim didn’t have a gun. There would be one less idiot in the world!

  • He did not beat the victim or the truck, he only talked to the guy and kept the wooden dowel with him because this “victim” is known for being a hot head and causing problems. This “victim” is a very dangerous driver and ran his wife and baby off the road with his reckless driving and has caused multiple issues for everyone living on his road. Including stalking and harassing a neighbors teenage daughter. I’m sure most men in Ryan’s situation would’ve done the same and tried to have a conversation with the guy causing danger to everyone on this road. Yes doing when upset is not a good call but when your young child and wife are run off a road it’s hard to not be upset about it. The parents of this “victim” should do a better job parenting their child and teach him to not be such a menace to society and the neighbors and how to properly and respectfully travel down small dirt roads so as to not put others lives in danger. Instead they are teaching him to lie to the authorities and slander Ryans name.
