GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Mirin Irie Minno, 21, was arrested yesterday morning for allegedly choking, hitting, and raping a woman he had dated in the past.

The victim told a responding Gainesville Police Department officer that Minno sent her a text at about 8:30 a.m. on February 28, stating that he was outside her apartment; she reportedly asked why he was there and told him to go away. She said that when Minno tried to get into her apartment through a window, she opened the door to tell him she would not let him in, but after he insisted that he needed some water, she let him in but told him he would have to leave as soon as he got some water.

However, as soon as Minno entered the residence, he allegedly pushed the door shut and forced the victim into her bedroom, where he choked her and slapped her multiple times while demanding that she have sex with him. After the victim repeatedly refused his demands to have sex, Minno allegedly forced himself on her and then fell asleep.

The victim called 911 and told officers that Minno was asleep in her room. Officers established a perimeter around the building; because Minno is known to own firearms, officers decided to make announcements, ordering Minno to come out of the apartment. After he did not respond to several announcements, officers entered the apartment, and a K-9 apprehended Minno with bites on his buttocks and his knee.

Post Miranda, Minno reportedly declined to answer any questions.

Minno has been charged with sexual battery, domestic battery by strangulation, and burglary with battery. He has a juvenile conviction from 2021 and was charged with a hunting misdemeanor in 2023, but the charge was dropped after he successfully completed a pre-trial diversion program. In January 2025, he was arrested for fleeing from a traffic stop and entered into a 12-month deferred prosecution agreement on January 23, 2025.

Judge Jonathan Ramsey ordered him held without bail on the new charges, pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial. On March 10, Judge James Colaw granted the motion and ordered him held without bail until trial.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Maybe he will actually get prison time for this. Obviously deferred prosecution on the other two crimes has not taught him wrong from right.

  • Well for someone into forced relationships, maybe Prison is a place he can find someone of similar passions
