Gainesville man charged with possession of automatic weapon attachment for pistol after officers reportedly saw a gun in his hoodie pocket during shooting investigation
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Fabion Vernal Boston, 21, was arrested last night and charged with resisting an officer and possession of a machine gun after officers investigating a shooting at Lamplighter Mobile Home Park reportedly saw a gun in his hoodie pocket and found that it was a pistol with an attachment that turns it into a fully-automatic weapon.
Gainesville Police Department officers responded to a call about a shooting at Lamplighter Mobile Home Park (in the 2800 block of NE 52nd Street) at about 8 p.m. last night, and a witness directed them to a specific property to speak to the involved parties. Before making contact with anyone, an officer reportedly saw a large object in Boston’s front hoodie pocket; while speaking to Boston, officers reportedly saw him reach into the hoodie pocket and grab a pistol. Officers issued loud commands to him to take his hands out of his pocket, but Boston allegedly refused to comply. He was reportedly taken to the ground and placed in handcuffs, and he allegedly continued to reach for his hoodie pocket while on the ground.
A search incident to arrest reportedly produced a Glock pistol with an extended magazine, fully loaded. A “Switch,” an illegal attachment that turns the semi-automatic pistol into a fully-automatic weapon, was reportedly attached to the rear of the pistol’s slide.
Post Miranda, Boston reportedly admitted that the gun was his, that he bought it off the streets, and that he knew the attachment was illegal.
Boston has a juvenile criminal history from 2018 and 2019 and an out-of-state criminal history in 2022-23, including a probation sentence. He also has a non-extraditable warrant from another state. Judge Mark Moseley set bail at $15,000.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â
So much for “CEASE VIOLENCE IN THE HOOD”. I guess he didnt get the memo. The US attorney should take the case and charge him with the converted pistol under federal law. Oh wait they may try to give him a sweet hunter plea. Forget it. Good law enforcement work. Having to fight with the thug over the gun. Glad no law enforcement were injuried. Lamplighter needs to have the lights turned out.
This thug is lucky not to be dead!
Federal crime. Get BATFE involved before this violence waiting to happen thug gets way.
$15,000 bond? Seriously?
Exactly! What is it with these judges and low bails? Previous offender, illegal gun, illegal attachment, resisting and he’s probably already bonded out! Looks like it’s time to start clearing the benches of these judges! They will never clean up this town if criminals keep getting a slap on the wrist and sent back out to play! Feel bad for our Leo’s!
I wonder if this is grounds for a complaint against Moseley with the JQC. Moseley is endangering the public with these kind of decisions.
These LEOs could easily have been murdered in this scenario – struggling with a criminal with his hand on a fully automatic weapon!

Trailer parks that foster crime should lose all section 8 vouchers.
Once again good old judge Moseley sets low bail for career criminal.
Auto-switch (made in China) equipped Glock-a-nator with a 33 round magazine.
He was going to inflict some serious hurt on someone.
Is this grounds for a complaint against Moseley with the JQC? I would think so as Moseley is endangering the public with these kind of decisions.

15k bail????? This is a Federal Offense. They would absolutely put my butt Under.The. Jail. if I had one of these things! What a joke our local Justice System’ has become.
They Eventually turn federal and the feds pick the cases up. ITS BEEN DONE IN GAINESVILLE plenty of times know the law
THEAAAHHH…don’t he know dey be illegal? Let’s pass another law…THEAAAHHH…
“Despite being illegal, the number of guns with switches seized by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has increased more than five times from about 300 in 2020 to 1,500 in 2021. Possessing one of these devices is a federal crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.”
Someone is going to be spending A LOT of time in “Club Fed”.
With the Switch installed, a 30 round Glock extended mag can be discharged in 2.3 seconds. Only the Taliban, as well as those they sold the finest, US-made, fully automatic firearms to, like Hamas and the Mexican cartels, have that kind of fire power.
This is serious criminality, right here in Wokeville.
$15k bond, sounds like dereliction of duty to me.
Same storey. Different name.
