Gainesville man charged with setting up home invasion robbery that resulted in D’halani Armstrong’s murder

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Patrick Owen Watson, 49, was arrested early this morning and charged with acting as a principal in the home invasion robbery that resulted in the shooting death of D’halani Armstrong on July 19, 2022. The information filed against Watson accuses him of supplying Alderious White and Jason Ward with pistols and that he solicited White, Ward, and Tiara Luckie to commit the home invasion robbery. Watson is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Six counts were filed against Watson on July 29: Second-degree murder (principal), burglary while armed with a firearm (principal), attempted home invasion robbery with a firearm (principal), solicitation to commit burglary with a firearm, solicitation to commit home invasion robbery, and possession of a firearm by a felon. A warrant for his arrest was issued the same day.

The address listed for Watson on the warrant is the same as the address where the robbery and murder were committed, and the State Attorney’s Office told us he lived at that address three days before the incident and had been in a relationship with one of the victims of the robbery.

Watson is being held on $3,100,000 bail.

On July 19, Jason Travis Ward, 38, allegedly kicked in the door of the house, carrying a firearm. Alderious Jerrad White, 28, allegedly entered the house after the door was kicked down, also carrying a firearm. Once inside, White encountered Armstrong and allegedly shot her; she died as a result of the gunshot wound. Once inside, Ward allegedly held two residents of the house, who had been sleeping in a bedroom, at gunpoint. One of those residents reportedly wrestled a gun away from Ward, and the gun went off, striking Ward.

Tiara Lanae Luckie, 30, allegedly drove White and Ward to the home. After Ward was shot, surveillance video reportedly shows him running out of the house from a side door, holding his torso; he then got into Luckie’s car, and she reportedly drove him, at his request, to the house of his cousin, where she knocked on the door and told the cousin that Ward had been shot. Ward got into his cousin’s car, and she drove him to the hospital, where the emergency room contacted law enforcement to report a gunshot wound victim.

Two other residents of the home, including a 10-year-old child, hid in a bathtub during the incident.

Luckie has been charged with accessory after the fact to a capital felony. She is being held on $250,000 bail.

Ward has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted armed home invasion robbery, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held without bond.
