Gainesville man charged with theft of firearm, domestic battery
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Archie Darnell Gilliam, 42, was arrested early this morning on charges of aggravated domestic battery and theft of a firearm, along with a warrant for domestic battery from an October incident.
At about 1:00 a.m., a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to Campus Walk Apartments, where the victim, who had been dating Gilliam, said he had been sitting outside of her apartment, yelling about $5 that was missing. She said that after he accused her of stealing the money, she put his black cross-body bag and black plastic shopping bag outside her apartment; however, she said that when she opened the door, he came into her apartment and bit her. She also said that he had a small gun in his hand; she said he did not point the gun at her or make any threats, but she was afraid he would use it. She said he grabbed the two bags and left after she said she was calling 911.
Officers reportedly found Gilliam near the apartment complex. Post Miranda, he reportedly said he had complained about missing $5 while he was outside the victim’s apartment, and then the victim started yelling at him when he went into her apartment. He said the victim punched him, then he left. He reportedly said he never had any bags and has never had a gun in his possession.
Officers reported that video surveillance at the apartment complex showed Gilliam walking with the black cross-body bag and the black plastic shopping bag in his hands.
A K-9 team reportedly found a black cross-body bag and a black plastic bag near where Gilliam had been found. A search of the cross-body bag reportedly produced a loaded Springfield Armory Hellcat 9mm that had been reported as stolen in Gainesville in 2023.
Gilliam was also arrested on a warrant for domestic battery on a different victim in October 2023.
Gilliam has been charged with domestic battery, aggravated domestic battery, grand theft of a firearm, tampering with evidence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He has two felony convictions (none violent) and nine misdemeanor convictions (three violent). Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $170,000.

Need to make the penalties for stolen guns tougher. Seems there are a lotta irresponsible gun-owners that should get penalized too.
You make no sense, “irresponsible gun owner”. We need to live in a society where we can leave are homes unlocked with no fear. Instead people have to install cameras for security measures at their homes. Lets start with shaving heads as these alleged criminals as part of hygiene. That is more of a deterrent then jail where charges will be dropped, or a plea deal offered. By the way victim will probably have to change her phone number since there are free phone calls at jail.
These dogs are doing an excellent job these days!
Most convicts keep an eye out on them 😜
Another convicted felon in possession of a stolen firearm who had 11 chances(convictions) to get it right and can’t. At 42 he is squabbling over $5. His name is Archie but he’s acting more like Jughead.
He looks like Tyrone Biggums from The Chappelle Show. 😜
He needed that 5$ because he missed the free crack give away.
