Gainesville man dead after being hit by semi on I-75

Staff report

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – An 18-year-old Gainesville man was killed this morning after being hit by a semi while walking along I-75 near the rest stop at mile marker 380.

At about 5:48 a.m. this morning, a 58-year-old Cocoa man reported to Florida Highway Patrol that he had hit something in the southbound lanes of I-75 in the area of the rest stop but said he didn’t know what he had hit.

Further investigation revealed that the Gainesville man had been walking on the interstate and was hit by the truck. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

  • This is why the law states no pedestrian traffic on interstate highways 🤦🤷

  • A Gainesville man? Yes he was 18 but with the mind of a 5 year old because he was born with a disability. He wondered off in the middle of the night. The family had just moved to that area. Saying a Gainesville man makes it look like he was just being reckless. He was a child (teenager).
