Gainesville man hit by MCSO Deputy while riding bicycle in Marion County
Staff report
OCALA, Fla. – A 63-year-old Gainesville man was killed overnight while riding a bicycle in Ocala.
According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was bicycling east in the right lane of SR 200 near SW 80th Avenue at about 3:19 a.m. when a Marion County Sheriff’s Office SUV, driven by a 22-year-old Ocala man, approached the bicycle from the rear. The release notes that the area was dark, with no street lighting, and there were no lights on the bicycle. The deputy did not see the bicycle in time to avoid hitting it and struck the bicycle from the rear. The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
So sad. For the family and the deputy.
The deputy was on the phone or that computer
How do you know that? Another idiot comment without proof. When the investigation is complete you will know what happen. Until then remember a man lost his life, a family will grieve and a young deputy’s life will forever be changed.
This is terrible for everyone. Sad.
Was he issued a ticket? Careless driving at least.
That Officer🐷🐽🐖NEEDS TO BE DRUG TESTED!!! GIVE HIM LIFE!!! HE TOOK A LIFE!!!🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
I’m impressed that you were able to craft that post. You’re an individual that would have difficulty rubbing two sticks together due to your relatively smooth brain. Shame that.
Riding at 3 am on a major highway without reflective clothing & lights is not recommended.
I do not understand a pedestrians or a bicycle riders thinking, they wear dark clothing, no lights and walk or ride in the street, you cannot see them. This deputy’s life has been destroyed by a senseless act of someone, JUST NOT THINKING.
