GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Alachua County Fall Term Grand Jury returned a True Bill yesterday indicting Michael Gregory Davis, 35, in the shooting death of Calvin Woodard on June 11, 2022, in Holly Heights.

On June 11, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report that a person had been shot in the 600 block of SW 69th Street. Deputies found Woodard, who later died from a gunshot wound to the chest. A warrant was issued on June 13 for Davis’ arrest, and he was arrested the next day. He was also charged with witness tampering a few days later after allegedly making a phone call telling someone to “withdraw that statement.”

Davis will now be arraigned and will face trial; he is being held without bail.

  • Holly Heights ( used to be known as Cedar Ridge ) isn’t a place anyone should be in after dark.

  • Hopefully the innocent people trying live peacefully in Holly Heights will sleep a bit easier. Don’t drop the witness tampering charges to get a plea deal on some reduced top line offense.
