Gainesville man killed in Marion County crash

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 43-year-old Gainesville man was killed in a crash in Marion County last night.

According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at 8:15 p.m. on July 31, an SUV driven by an 81-year-old Ocala woman was traveling westbound on U.S. Hwy 27 when the driver attempted to turn left on NW 60th Avenue. A sedan driven by the Gainesville man was traveling eastbound on U.S. Hwy 27, and the front of the sedan collided with the right side of the SUV. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the driver of the SUV was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

According to the release, the Ocala woman was wearing a seatbelt and the Gainesville man was not wearing a seatbelt.
