Gainesville man killed in SR 121 rollover

Staff report

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – An 84-year-old Gainesville man was killed earlier today in a rollover crash on SR 121.

According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 11:54 a.m. on September 20, the man was driving a van north on SR 121 and lost control of the van for unknown reasons near the intersection with NW 166th Avenue. The van swerved to the right, the driver overcorrected to the left, the van overturned, and the man was ejected. The man was not wearing a seatbelt.

  • The mandatory seatbelt law became effective in 1987. I will never understand why so many people don’t wear them. This gentleman could be alive if he simply buckled up.

  • At a certain age we all have health issues and at a certain age we should consider surrendering our license. Thankfully the accident didn’t involve other vehicles. Rest peacefully and condolences to the family.

    • How right you are Andie, however he was going to another job site. Ya see my Dad has owned his own construction company for 40 yrs and was still working. However some medical issues are sudden with no concern for others.

  • So sorry for his loss our condolences to the family 🙏 He was a very hard working man that loved his family and was always welcoming he sure will be missed. For anyone with negative comments you should keep them to yourself. He may of been 84 but didn’t act it he worked every day and he drove better than half these younger people out there can ever dream of doing.

    • My brother and I could not have said it better, Emily. Anger took my words.
Thank you. He was a great man, no anger or hatred in him. His shoes will remain empty, noone will ever be able to fill them.

      • Well spoken bro. All I can do is forgive the ones that speak negativity and do everything I can to honor the man dad was. He was compassionate to everyone he met and knew, a true man of service and sacrifice not just for his family but for his community also. A wonderful father and Honorable Veteran of the US NAVY. His memory will live on in our hearts forever.
