Gainesville Neighborhood Voices to host workshops on Gainesville’s Comprehensive Plan

Press release from Gainesville Neighborhood Voices

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Should Gainesville encourage dense housing development to reduce the number and length of car trips around town? Should the City try to prevent the displacement of current residents as it makes room for new residents? Should developers be allowed to cut down large old trees and require that two young trees be planted for each tree removed? Should Gainesville strive to provide walkable access to parks? Grocery stores? Health clinics? Should older buildings be protected or replaced? These are some of the questions raised in the City’s draft Comprehensive Plan.

To encourage discussion about our City’s future, Gainesville Neighborhood Voices will host two workshops where local residents and City officials can discuss the City’s draft Comprehensive Plan, titled ImagineGNV.

The first workshop, hosted by At-Large Commissioner Cynthia Chestnut, will be held on Tuesday, February 3, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Massey Recreation Center (Westside Park) meeting room, 1001 NW 34th Street.

The second workshop, hosted by District 1 Commissioner Desmon Duncan-Walker, will be held on Wednesday, February 11, at 7:00 p.m. at the Eastside Community Center, 2841 E University Avenue in Fred Cone Park.

Residents will have an opportunity to question City staff about the Plan’s “Goals, Objectives, and Policies” in an informal setting. The current draft Comprehensive Plan can be found at https://www.gainesvillefl.gov/Government-Pages/Government/Departments/Sustainable-Development/Comprehensive-Planning

  • “Gainesville Comprehensive Plan” = Soak the taxpayer for as much as they can get and waste it on the unmotivated members of society.

  • What a sham! Most of us know the City has selective hearing; it only listens to the misinformed and gullible majority.

  • No doubt our 2 “motivated members of society” above will then take advantage of this opportunity since “Residents will have an opportunity to question City staff….”
