Gainesville Professional Firefighters endorse Ed Book for Gainesville City Commission

Ed Book and IAFF President Nick Gonzalez

Press release from Ed Book for Gainesville City Commission District 2

Gainesville Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 2157 has endorsed City Commission District 2 candidate Ed Book.

The letter from Gonzalez attests to an “extremely competitive interview process” that led the Firefighters to support the candidate.

The Association specifically cited the “unique experience of having sat on both sides of the table as both a bargaining unit member and as a management bargaining representative.” Additionally, President Gonzalez cited other important qualifications, including over 36 years of public service, “exemplary qualities as a decision maker,” budgeting experience, and personal traits of “connection to the community” and “ability to actively listen while engaging constituents.”

The Gainesville Professional Firefighters represent the men and women of Gainesville Fire Rescue and are the leading first responders in both fire and medical response for both the City of Gainesville and the Gainesville Urban Area. They are known as innovators in emergency response and are internationally accredited.

Previously, law enforcement professionals in the region, represented by Fraternal Order of Police Gator Lodge 67, also formally announced support for Ed Book.

Book hopes that Gainesville neighbors will join firefighters and other public safety professionals who consider him worthy of election and vote on August 23rd.
