GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Javion Amari Moore, 18, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly pointing a gun at a man inside an apartment.
At about 4:47 p.m. on April 26, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Legacy at Fort Clarke (1505 Fort Clarke Boulevard), where the victim said he and Moore had gotten into a physical fight inside an apartment and Moore went into his bedroom and came back holding a handgun. The victim said Moore pointed the gun at him and said, “You think I won’t do it,” causing the victim to fear for his safety. The victim said Moore put the gun in his waistband and left the apartment.
One witness corroborated the victim’s account of the incident, and a second witness saw Moore go into his bedroom and get a gun from a yellow shoebox.
Deputies reportedly found Moore in the parking lot and detained him, but they did not find a gun.
Post Miranda, Moore initially said he had gone into the kitchen and grabbed a knife after the physical fight but immediately dropped it. He then reportedly changed his story and said he never grabbed a knife; he also denied having a firearm during the incident. When the deputy asked again if he had picked up a gun, Moore reportedly responded, “I never pointed it at him” before saying again that he’d never had a gun.
Moore has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has an unspecified juvenile conviction from 2024 but no adult criminal history. Judge George Wright ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial. On May 4, Judge Robert Groeb granted the motion and ordered him held without bail until trial.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
