Gainesville woman arrested after a dog was found in critical condition in her hot vehicle

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ida Marie Turner, 56, was arrested yesterday after a dog was reportedly found in critical condition in a hot vehicle outside her home.
At about 12:30 p.m. on May 26, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to an animal services investigation in the Tower Oaks area.
The deputy reported that an infrared thermometer registered 171 degrees on the dashboard of the vehicle and 101 degrees at floor level.
Post Miranda, Turner reportedly admitted to leaving a dog in a kennel in the cargo area of her vehicle, which had been parked in front of her home for about two hours in direct sunlight, with the doors and windows closed and no air conditioning or water.
The dog was immediately transported to a small animal emergency room and was found to be in critical condition.
Turner has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty causing excessive suffering. She has no criminal history, and Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $5,000 and ordered her to have no contact with animals.

Let this be a heads-up warning for the upcoming heat of the summer months. No animal, child—any person for that matter—should be left in the car in that kind of heat. Maybe those jail bars will be a reminder for her.

Worthless piece of garbage! People like this need to do jail time, period. Not a fine, not a stay away from animals order but serious automatic jail sentences. This heartless, clueless poor excuse for a human makes me sick!
