GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Antonetta Tashara Holmes, 32, was arrested yesterday after allegedly entering a stranger’s home, taking off her clothes in front of two children, and preventing the children from leaving; she also allegedly broke a window trying to re-enter the house after she was removed.

At about 6:42 p.m. on July 9, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2200 block of SW 70th Terrace (Linton Oaks), where a caller said a naked female had broken into her residence and attacked her children.

Deputies reportedly found Holmes outside the home, and after a brief stand-off while she allegedly refused verbal commands, she was placed on the ground and detained; she also allegedly resisted being placed in the back of a patrol vehicle and had to be placed on the ground again.

Deputies reported that two windows of the home were broken, and clothing items, later determined to be Holmes’s clothing and the homeowner’s purse, were scattered in the front yard.

The caller said her children had been playing in her driveway when a neighbor asked her to come over and see something inside the house; the homeowner said she had been inside her neighbor’s house for about two minutes when she heard her children screaming, and she and her husband ran to their home and saw the front door wide open.

The caller said that when they went inside, they saw Holmes completely naked in the living room with their two young children. Her husband reportedly grabbed Holmes and removed her from the home, while the caller attended to some minor lacerations on the children.

The caller said that after her husband took Holmes outside, Holmes broke a second window and reached through it, trying to get to the family, before leaving. The adults told deputies they did not know Holmes and feared she would sexually harm the children.

One of the children said he was playing with his brother in the living room when Holmes came through the front door, fully clothed. He said Holmes picked up his mother’s purse and then took off all of her clothes. He said he and his brother became extremely scared, started screaming, and tried to run out the front door, but Holmes grabbed his arm and pulled him back inside; he said Holmes kept him and his brother in the living room, but he banged on the front window to get help and hit it so hard that it broke, cutting him. He said the adults arrived at about that time.

Holmes has been charged with burglary with battery, two counts of false imprisonment of a child under 13, grand theft from a dwelling, property damage over $200, and resisting an officer without violence.

Holmes was also arrested on charges from a June 24 incident in which she allegedly went to a relative’s house, forced open a locked bedroom with a knife, took a 9mm pistol from a gun safe, and left. She has been charged in that case with burglary of a dwelling, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, grand theft of a firearm, and using a weapon during the commission of a felony.

Holmes is also facing a sworn complaint for a January 4 incident in which she allegedly entered a friend’s home by hitting the door with a knife until she opened a hole large enough to reach through and then unlocked the door, went inside, and rummaged through the friend’s belongings.

Holmes has two felony convictions (one violent) and four misdemeanor convictions (two violent). She has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2012. Judge David Kreider ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold her without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    • The home owner had two small kids. Didn’t want guns in her home with the kids.

  • She’s clearly nuts. Whatever is her malfunction, she should never again be released into society until and unless a qualified psychiatrist certifies that she is properly controlled. Maybe that ain’t possible and she never gets out. She is a danger to herself and others right now.
