Gainesville woman arrested for battery on police officer

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jasamine Lashae McCrea, 35, was arrested early this morning for allegedly grabbing and pushing an officer who had asked her to step out of a vehicle and identify herself during an investigation into a fight.

At about 2:07 a.m. on June 3, Gainesville Police Department officers responded to a report that two black females were fighting in the parking lot of a shopping plaza at 2028 SW 34th Street, and they found a large crowd of people surrounding two black females who were yelling at each other.

One of the women involved in the fight reportedly pointed to McCrea, saying she was the other participant in the fight; an officer reportedly told McCrea she was detained for the investigation into the reported affray and disorderly conduct and was not free to leave. The officer reported that McCrea refused to identify herself multiple times and kept cursing at officers.

The officer reported that he briefly walked away to talk with the other participant in the fight, and when he returned, McCrea was in the front passenger seat of a vehicle. She allegedly refused multiple commands to get out of the vehicle and refused to identify herself; with the door ajar, she reportedly waved at the officers as if she were leaving and then started to close the vehicle’s door.

The officer reportedly stopped her from closing the door by forcing the door open, and McCrea allegedly lunged out of the passenger seat and yelled, “Don’t shut no [expletive] door on me!” before grabbing the officer’s vest and pushing him. Other officers assisted with detaining McCrea, and she reportedly yelled, “[Expletive] I will beat yo [multiple expletives]!”

At least one other officer witnessed McCrea grabbing the officer.

McCrea has been charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, a felony. She has three misdemeanor convictions (one violent), and Judge Meshon Rawls ordered her released on her own recognizance with a curfew between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Judge Meshon Rawls never surprises anyone with her RORs on violent felonies. As for JasAmine I guess you FAFO.

    • Alachua Chronicle readers are the least knowledgeable about the US Constitution. Comments like this are absolute proof.

  • Good job, Judge. I’m sure she’ll abide by the curfew just like she stepped out of the car when the officer told her to.

  • When are people going to learn you have to kiss the officers but and do what the master says or you are going to jail.

      • What part of the Constitution do you think confuses the Corner? ROR is a very low consideration for a repeat violent offender.

  • Aaaaand judges like this are part of the reason why these animals have become so entitled to act as they please, abusing the very pillars of law and order with little regard for their behavior. Imagine the officer’s dismay after learning a judge released this perp with basically zero consequences. This judge’s actions do not contribute to building and maintaining a sound society with a hierarchy of order, her actions contribute to anarchy and entitlement.
