Gainesville woman arrested for burglarizing vehicle during street fight

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ivette Carolina Castillo, 21, was arrested early this morning for allegedly burglarizing an occupied vehicle and hitting the driver during a street fight in Midtown; four other people were arrested for various misdemeanors related to the fight.

At about 2:42 a.m. on October 18, Gainesville Police Department officers responded to a fight in the street in the 200 block of NW 10th Street. The victim said that she was sitting in her vehicle when Castillo “banged on the window” of her vehicle, broke the door handle, and got into the vehicle. Once she was inside the vehicle, she allegedly hit the victim multiple times in the face.

The officer reported that the victim sustained injuries to her face.

Castillo reportedly stated spontaneously that the victim came to her vehicle and banged on the window, so she got out of the vehicle and began fighting with the victim.

Post Miranda, Castillo reportedly said the victim approached her while she was fighting someone else, grabbed her by the hair, and pulled her into her vehicle. Castillo denied breaking the victim’s door handle or ever going into her vehicle but admitted that she had gotten into a physical fight with the victim.

Izabella Noemi Castillo, 22; Lucretia R. Coleman, 27; Malcolm Thomas Glaeser, 25; and Keyshla Valentin, 24, were also arrested for misdemeanors related to the fight.

Ivette Castillo is also facing a sworn complaint for battery and property damage for allegedly punching a man while he was sitting in his car and then damaging his fuel door, rearview mirror, and window tint on October 7. She has not been booked on that charge.

Ivette Castillo has no local criminal convictions. Judge James Colaw ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold her without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.
